10% PLEX SALE....... Or is it????

Now i 'm sure one way or another there's a perfectly viable reason for this but.

When i saw on the launcher startup "10% plex sale" i thought NICE - lets grab a couple. I clicked the link but then i saw the prices.

Here's the issue.

I live in the UK - now i've always thought we were being had on Subscription and plex prices anyway as we way £9.99 per month and as i understand it others pay $9.99 per month - the conversion rate from $ to £ confirms we get had on that but this isn't about the subscription price it's about PLEX where it appears CCP have done exactly the same thing

Usual price £29.99 for 2 x PLEX
Sale price £26.99 for 2 x PLEX

on face value this is a good deal there sure is 10% off there but (ignore the fact all CCP appear to have done with their pricing for the UK is take the $$ off and put a £ in front rather than work out the conversion rate so we all pay the same price) if you go to ANY of the 3rd party PLEX resellers they all sell them in $ so at the checkout the conversion is done for you and they're STILL CHEAPER than the CCP own so called "sale" price.

I love playing EVE and i would never begrudge a company making a fair buck or two it's why they exist after all to make real world money for shareholders - the game being popular is just an added bonus but

#1 - why isn't the pricing structure for everyone regarless of the currency you pay in the same
#2 - why is it cheaper for me to buy PLEX from the rd part reseller rather than DIRECTLY from CCP??

I look forward to hearing from y'all on this most annoying matter.

Regards

Lumpz - in the UK but hiding in lowsec :)

I am in the UK and disgusted at this discrimination too. I refuse to pay the 'UK' prices for these and would always go third party for that reason.

If it was a tax issue the numbers would add up, they simply do not.

We haven't had this thread for a little bit.

Your UK prices are inclusive of VAT.

The US prices are excluding tax as tax rates in the US vary. So their tax is added at point of sale, while yours is added presale. So in the end, it all sort of works out similar, but currency prices will always mean there is variation and yeah I think the UK is about the most expensive overall.

That's my recollection of the million threads before. I could be remembering it wrong though.

As an Australian based player, we get screwed over no matter where we buy. The bank currency rates and fees for foreign currency conversion send the prices up by a fair bit.

In the UK we have VAT which is included I the price, in America they have sales tax which I different in every state. The sales tax is added when the purchase is made.

So just buy them from a retailer that lets you pay in dollars? There are plenty. You could even pay your subscription directly to CCP in dollars if you wanted to. Much cheaper than the non-conversion crap they try to pull.

The GBP/USD current exchange rate is 1.5716 - $42.41, which without the 20% VAT would be $33.92. Smile

It's a common practice. Sadly?

Whats it matter? $15 I cant even get a movie ticket for that any longer in the US. By the time I buy two tickets, popcorn, sodas, chewy candy stuff, that's like 4-5/mo of EVE. Add dinner for two, 1yr subscription.

I'm in it for the money

hehe!

Off we again Big smile

In the EU, thanks to British intransigence, all purchases of digital and non digital items have to include VAT of the country of the purchaser.

Companies who sell to people in the EU must pay The VAT they collect at that countries rate to the country the purchaser lives in.

This means for multinational companies they have a department set up just for that. Most automatically show the correct Vat based on for the buyer's location.

Medium sized companies can use an agency to sort it all out and deal with all the other EU countries tax departments, all they need to do is pass the amount of sale, the 2 bits of evidence that confirms buyers location and the money.

Small companies cannot use the agency, so most will soon stop international sales, as they will have to deal with each tax department individually, which will be a nightmare and as the UK is the instigator of this madness, our customs and excise is already starting the crack down on companies who do not comply. They have yet to block a non-european company Website for selling in the UK for non payment of VAT but they have the power to do so.

To summarise even if you pay in dollars CCP will have to pay 21% VAT to the UK.
If you buy Plex from the USA that company will need to pay 21% VAT to the UK.
