+1 if you would like to have a ingame music player

It just occured to me: wouldn't be great to be able to play any music within the game?

I was mining around and noticed how there is always the same music looping again and again. That is quite boring, and the only alternative I found was to silence the game music and start playing something else with Winamp. But that feels silly, why should I use a different software to listen to music while playing EVE?

I may be wrong, but music players don't look like rocket science. Many games, even MMOs, have built-in music players and can read files from your HD and play them within the game.

EVE should have one too. CCP could even pre-load it with all music from the game, if it is in a suitable format.

+1 if you would like to have a ingame music player!

Stealth (or not so stealth) bring back the jukebox thread.

This is a fairly regular thread, but CCP have said it's not going to happen, at least not within the current direction and work on the game.

+1 Naow!!!!

Really though, since they removed that, EVE quit being my MP3 player and I just don't run it with sound any longer.
I don't even know if EVE has sound any longer... Roll
Actually, EVE needs a bunch of sound ****, more MUD style rather than this WoW type sound crap. Sound engineering department failed in my book.

I'm in it for the money

You mean the direction of the player count achieving levels not seen since 2006? I'm pretty sure that new players think EvE is just the creepy noise simulator because that's all the ****** "dynamic" music thing plays all day.

They are in Iceland. "Too expensive to maintain."

As this is thread #9001 on this topic we know a) it's not gonna happen; and b) it's gonna get locked as "redundant/repost."

If you're lucky enough to get a dev response before the lock it's gonna be along the lines of "it's all on Soundcloud, have that running in the background."

Fake edit: EVE has sound?

See: Anonymous Big Kahoona had the pet project of implementing Procedural Music for Cool Space Areas. In order to do that, they had to kill the Jukebox and create "soundscapes" so every system had the same boring tunes over and over and Cool Space Areas got Procedural Music as a reward for Cool Players.

So EVE became a game where music is irrelevant, Cool Space Areas got a mildly creepy buzz nobody gives a sh*t of and you need Soundcloud to listen to EVE music. Or Winamp or Itunes or whatever.

It's not about music player being easy or difficult to implement; it's about Big Kahoona spending money in a pet project and nobody willing to stain his reputation by pointing that their stupid users would rather want a jukebox than the procedural buzz nobody cares of and the elevator music curse on the rest of space.

But yes, +1, bring back the jukebox. Roll

Yeah, agree.

I'd be satisfied if only my lasers didn't sound like a bunch of wet blue jeans striking a pavement in quick succession. I want more of an electrified SizzZZlLLeCRAaaCkZap kind of sound.

They should bind (or allow us to) VLC. It has python bindings: https://wiki.videolan.org/Python_bindings/

They should at least sell the soundtrack to the game, if you ask me. I have bought exactly zero EVE related merchandise despite playing for a long time, but I would buy the soundtrack in a heartbeat. So many unused tracks...

Can´t you just use spotify or just some music on your pc? I mean, I have several movies put together to watch in my captains quarter and a seperated soundtrack to play to have some "real sound" while watching a movie on the couch but that´s just some nerdgasm thingy.
Playlists are for music and why you need that implemented into the game is a little beyond me.

It's freely available for download from their Soundcloud, here.

But, I agree with you.
If they packaged a CD containing the soundtrack in a fancy box I'd totally buy it.

I cannot think of a reason for wanting an in game player. The one they used to have was awful. Foobar2000 with an eve colour scheme is perfect. That spreadsheet look fits right i. It doesn't interfere with multiple clients. It doesn't take up valuable screen space and has a reasonable playlist editor. I can customise the volume control to be controlled from keyboard wheel.

Just reactionary sentimentality is all.

Even Microsoft is deleting their jukebox.

More often than not I just go to Youtube to listen to music, even if I own the CD. Can't be arsed to pop it in and rip the tracks.

Just put this and this on infinite loop when playing EVE.

Well when I say MUD style, it's more along the lines of yes music players, but also user defined event notification sounds etc. When I say WoW, it's alll about the hand holding and what is taken out of your control.
Ima sandbox user. I want more sandbox in my sandbox, not less What?

+1 I really miss the jukebox.

On another note I noticed the Tron: Legacy soundtrack accompanies this game really well. I usually play it on Winamp while playing.

It's freely available but some notorious tracks are missing... like this best of the best.

I wonder if new players even *know* of that track, or how EVE haves 70+ ambient themes, plus 40+ "triggered" themes.

The soundtrack and the animated login screens where two of the elements that made me fall in love to EVE during my trial. They're gone but not forgotten; neither the lame launcher nor the character selection screen have that kind of emotional impact, and listening to the same 4 tunes in a loop is the opposite of fascinating.

As was mentioned above, that is not the entire soundtrack, although it is handy.

For the full soundtrack in physical form, in a fancy case(with a Blood Raiders symbol on it, perhaps), I'd happily shell out fifteen bucks.
