I was reading up on galaxies today and I started looking through the nearest galaxies to Earth list on Wikipedia. I start to wonder that if the wormhole that was found had a limited range one of these galaxies would be the home of New Eden. So why not make a fun competition out of it!

Galaxy List

Feel free to look through that list and pick your choice of EVE location.

Whoever gets the most likes on their suggestion gets a prize of 100 million isk.

Do give your reasoning in order to persuade others to like your post. One choice per post one post per character.

Competition closes at midnight tonight GMT.

Good luck!

Large Megallanic Cloud.

Also, we have really dumb names for these galaxies. There are two many slow ones and not enough round ones and one more than too few of the bright ones. If I had designed this it would have been at least several times more pretty and slightly more useful.

Also again, I like contests. You had a good idea!

To be honest, I don't think the galaxy of New Eden is on this list, for two reasons:

1. The furthest galaxy listed is NGC 4945 at 11.7 light years. Conceivably with the advanced technology of earth's original exploration teams, it wouldn't have been deemed hopeless to return once the gate collapsed if we could've gotten back eventually. So I think New Eden is somewhere well beyond our current magnitude of measurement.
2. It's science fiction, so I don't think it exists anywhere.

That's 11.7 million light years, in other words a very long way. And besides it's a bit of fun!

Its not 11.7 light years, its 11.7 million light years... It would be almost impossible to travel across our own galaxy even thousands of years in the future never mind the distance between galaxies.

P.S. edit - Im pretty sure nanobots/Jovian technology could do it. They do everything else that doesn't make sense.

Phoenix Dwarf Galaxy. Has a nice ring to it, and not much is known of its features, making it a good candidate for fiction.

By the way, since we're already talking, do you want to buy a rifter? I've got the cheapest rifters in Metropolis. If you can find a cheaper rifter, buy it!

That works out as 7.39904159 × 10 to the 11 AUs what's the fastest warping ship in EVE?

A ship warping at 3 AU/s would take 7,820 years to get back to Earth by my maths.

Yup, thats only several thousand years longer than anyone will live. ;D Though if you're saying they would be willing to wait 8000 years in stasis you might as well say they would be willing to wait 80,000 years or 800,000,000 and then could return to earth from anywhere. I would rather just keep being an immortal capsuleer. Zoooooooooooooooooom

I say that New Eden is in andromeda.

What if wormholes were limited to their graviational neighborhood? A rip in space and time that is concentraited in systems only this was was on a galactic scale and the closest place for the wormhole is indeed our closest galactic neighbor. The new eden gate is/was huge. It is obviously different than solar wormholes (wormholes that go between systems) in which that it is just at a larger scale.

I seem to recall that for a long time the bright star in 23.346 AD/YC 109 was supposed to be light emitted from the EVE Gate's other exit (or entry) at its collapse.

However, history has changed and nowadays the lore seems to be dismissive of this notion citing player concerns:

how can a star appear simultaneously to all systems in EVE which are many lightyears apart from each others?
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/The_Bright_Star

if the light was from the collapse of the EVE gate we would be about 23.346 - 8.061=15.285 lightyears from its entry, which would probably still put us into the milky way.

Milky Way , ya i know cheap trick but i have this rare weird feeling the Original EVE Wormhole worked across time and not across distances.

The latest storylines about what the sleepers, Farjung, Tlalocan and all the old races bring me this dark feeling everytime i get access to a bit more lore from the EVE Fiction digs.

But if you want a near galaxy guess i'll bet for Antlia Dwarf the interaction with NGC 3109 may explain a bit also the Wormhole space
