I'm not a graphic artist, or have any notion whatsoever about how to draw sci-fi looking artwork. However looking at these icons apparently this would be no impediment to my getting a job in the art department at CCP.

This icon reminds me of the soviet anti air SAM Site from Command & Conquer Red Alert. Just in brown

Too big.

Like for new UI / new Ship Icones there's a certain homogeneity that is completely forgotten.

icons dont fit the design of module icons we already have.
I guess CCP fired the dude who made the old icons, and the new guy wanna be the one who made better looking ones.

UI icons should be representative of what the module does, not what the module looks like.

I think:

CCP Producer: What can we do to make it look like we're still developing this game with the limited resources and talent that we have left?

CCP Artist: I could screw with the icons, maybe?

Ah so you agree the "target painter" should be an image of a painter painting a target!

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Don't be silly! Obviously it would be an image of a painter's brush! Big smile

Back during Incarna, they did the 'what the module looks like' on the button and it resulted in icons you couldn't recognize. You couldn't tell by looking, what that module did. It was more frustration fuel for the fire for the summer of Incarna rage.

And yes, you can say that you'd already know what you fitted... but that doesn't account for switching ships, for stepping away and coming back and having to remember what that was. You could mouse over it to see what it said, but in EVE, that second or two can really be a difference that results in your ship being gone. The simpler solution is to have a recognizable icon. (Much like what we hope will happen with our overview icons.)

I'm thinking of perhaps a stick man of the kind you get to signify an exit or a public convenience. This figure should be holding a paint brush but over the top of that their should be sniper cross hairs similar to the way you design a corporation logo.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind making the TP icon a little more clear about what it does.
