I don't hate goons.


Don't like them either - but how do I hate or like them? They would do anything to me that everybody else in the game would already do if given the chance. What's the problem here?


And we do have to admit, the goons treat their noobs pretty good, and teach their noobs not to be ISK-hoarding, ship-pimping aristocrats in space either.

The one thing that goons do different, to me anyway, is what while many players are griefers who hide their greifing and "tear harvesting" behind "it's a game" or "This is EvE", the goons actually say up front that they want to pee on your head. These are the guys who see you in a new suit standing next to a puddle and steer their car towards the puddle.

The funny thing is that they outwardly say they want to get under your skin, but hide in-game or EvE-related goals behind that, which is the opposite of what your run of the mill semi-autistic emo-raging griefer admits to.


The goons remind me of those guys from Fight Club. I wonder if they all dress the same.

I neither hate or like the goons however when stumbling across the the something awful forums a few days ago, these guys take the Eve very seriously, in fact too seriously for me Big smile

I am a bit biased against them after a real life encounter with a Goon.

A long while back, we had some temporary workers doing some odds and ends jobs for the company I work for. One of the temps noticed I had a screenshot from Eve as my wallpaper and asked if I was an Eve player. We talked about the game and he mentioned that he was a member of Goonswarm. I asked numerous questions about gaming life as one of the larger alliances and their running battles against Band of Brothers. Overall, he seemed pretty amiable...

...even with the subtle stench of body odor, the full-blown neckbeard and slicked back hair, and the huffing and puffing from walking since he was extremely overweight, he still seemed like a nice guy.

Suddenly he and a fairly attractive female temp were gone. It seemed he was constantly hitting upon this female and after numerous rejections over weeks of time, the whole fiasco became a human resource affair because he would not back off.

Today, whenever I read a Goon's post here on the forums, for the most part, I take it at face value. But every now and then, one post will be filled with so much arrogance, so much "we know we're better than you fafafa", that no matter how far over unwritten ethic rules they cross, they will not back off.

Personally, that rubs me the wrong way.

I don't hate them, but they are spoiling and manipulating people,
denying them the experiences EvE has to offer.

That's just ... sad.

On the other hands ... only idiots and people with self esteem issues join them anyway.

OK, trying to give a more serious answer in an obvious troll thread, but I don't want those poor little trolls to starve to death here:

I think the problem many people here have with the goons is that the clearly most influential alliance in eve is a coterie that does not publicly recruit but requires you to be a paying member of an other website.
I could fancy that most of the haters or people that care consider this as elitist. "We are the cool guys and no, you cannot play with us, even if you bring your own toys."
It's maybe some kind of "occupy wallstreet" vibe where people feel that they are denied large aspects of the game by a small elite.

Well, nobody is keeping you from forming an alliance that is similarily close-knit. It's a sandbox after all.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Anybody that falls for their corp recruitment scam deserves it. They warn you on their recruitment web-page. Well.

A Goon recruitment scam is the least of their worries in EVE Online. The minute they hit Jita they'll be sending somebody all their ISK for double pack.

As to the Goons; can't say I hate them. They play the game and they play it well on all levels. I don't know any of them personally, so maybe they are all closet assholes, but I enjoy the forum love they generate as well. Serves as entertainment most days Lol

They are the worst kind of nerds, the claim to laugh about nerds and for example the roleplay aspect in a RPG, while waisting countless hours into other aspects of the same RPG.

In that aspect Goons are like fat star wars kids wearing original Jedi-Robes™ and a plastic Lightsaber™ while making fun of the geeks discussing the physics in star trek.

....as if 10,058 Goon voices cried out and were suddenly silenced.

goonswarm in 2006 was so serious business you wouldn't recognize it, we're much more relaxed now, but ~i don't like goons they used to be chill hurrrrr~ is a popular meme. but caracals on the open market, relisting, blanket of fear, alt detector: all things that random-ass pubbies have no idea about

just like ~goons are the new bob~ since i often find myself having sabre bpos spawned for me and going on moral crusades in the name of 'protecting the eve community' from newbies daring to play in 0.0. i also like to call my allies 'pets', treat them like dirt, and refer to myself as 'god' in local

I don't hate goons, unless they start calling everyone a pubbie. I like how they are killing bots (no real person would ice mine and even fewer people would ice mine when they know goons are out to get them)

Plus they don't effect me, which is always a bonus.

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.
