R&D Agents Suck

I started out station trading and went straight into T2 production, I came across a video on youtube "Outdated" and they were talking about datacore farming. I never knew about R&D agents until I saw that video.

I tried it for a couple months now with two of my characters and it sucks. I have made like 70 datacores in that time, what a waste of time. They ask you to do missions every day and they stop researching I think, until you do it.

I love passive income. I enjoy P.I. , Station Trading while I mine, but you need to redo R&D Agents. I do not mine doing missions for them BUT...

*** The rewards are way to small

*** The storyline missions that they put on you is, a mission that hurts you against another major factions like "Gallente" when your Amarr. Production is a trade that requires good standings with all factions. So, to have a mission that hurts your standings with another faction is pointless, and that's why I never accept those. Only the one's that say bring me Scordite instead of tritanium.

I am waiting to see what level three is going to be like with doing level 2 at the same time, but I think I will just stop doing this. I can buy datacores a million times faster than this.

It was reworked long time ago.
Data cores come now mostly from FW.

In the web , you will still find that drake is the best ship, and raven is the king of PVE.

Not that much, I'm pretty sure the max you can aim for (max skill, negociation 5, agent lvl 4) is about 1 Datacore per agent per day (~100 RPs), so 6 Datacores max (double it if you're willing to do the daily missions). That means about 20M a month... Not great. Datacores pop from Data sites, so that might be why they aren't costly.

However, it is totally passive. You can come back to your agent a year later and collect the Datacores all at once (10k per Datacore however). The payout is not great but the return on investment is decent given that you have absolutely nothing to do once it is started (i.e. no time used after the start)

I just might quite doing them now. 20 Mil a month. We make that in 20 minutes.

I can not wait for the datacore spawning with the new structures. I think it will be part of the "research lab" structure, in another year or so.

Then they were added to FW, and people who did invention rejoiced. And people who use T2 modules rejoiced (prices dropped)

Well some of us did, I did farm the R&D agents and made a lot of isk from it, but I didn't complain when it was gone ;)

The problem with the previous situation was that you could spend quite a bit of time to set up a datacore farm, but then you could earn stupid amounts of isk by doing nothing at all, and that's very bad game design.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Why stop? I agree the rewards are paltry and stopped doing the missions some time ago but the RP still accumulate and I plan to harvest my datacores once or twice a year. With 4 level 4 agents that will give me a decent return on my investment in the Research Project Management Skill.

I've not collected datacores in several years (since datacores were changed to costing ISK, and added to FW), so have a lot of RP accumulated.

Well, I am going to continue doing R&D agents until level three since it is right next door to my system and see what I get, but you know a system is flawed when everyone is saying they do not do any of the missions and just letting the RP grow.

I want to do the missions to get more Datacores, but the missions suck.

If you want to mission for datacores, join FW and skip research agents entirely. I'm actually quite serious.
