It looks like a directional radar antenna. Seems rather fitting.

New icons add uneeded complexity.

It's just an extra thing for new players to wrote-learn. CCP has talked about wanting to remove stuff like that, so I don't know why they're going to add these.

Why new icons look like antenna (actually like fly's face). How antenna could affect on missile damage or rate of fire of launchers?

Other weapon upgrades icons look like "here is the gun, and here is improvement for it in left-bottom corner (accuracy or firepower)"

People still prefer fantasy analogues to real life things to look at least vaguely like those real life things. Kinda makes them more familiar, and when it comes to icons, that's important that you should be able to tell immediately wtf it is.

That said, old icons did the job well - for BCUs at least. I'm all for different mods being a bit more distinguishable though.

Seems we need to get back to longer Patch cycles which implement more new stuff instead of 'fix all those small things' so the Art Department gets something to do instead of 'fix all those small things People like about the look of eve that does not look like Random MMO 52031'

CCP have got to the end of the list of easy things to fix and rather than fix the hard things they search madly around for something else to fix.

Module Icons are not important fixes
Overview Icons / brackets are not important fixes

Was there anyone in the community that was asking for these?

Where is the corporation management re-write?
Where is the POS Roles / replacement for POS re-write / replacement.

do people really think the art department deals with everything in the game, do you think the art department deals with game balance and fixing coding issues? i highly doubt it, so while the art department make visual changes to things another department will be working on something else, so just because art department redesigns a few icons does not mean ccp are ignoring every other issue within the game.

I don't know, it might be organised like that, I will wait until something in game changes that I don't like before complaining about it.

Well it could increase damage with a new antena system being better at guidance thus reducing the space needed on th emissile itself thus allowing heavyer warhead.

You could increase the rate of fire if the added antenna enable you to track targets with more missile at the same time.

As for a counter argument for the sake of it, I'd like to know how a gyro stabilizer affect your damage on a gun and not just accuracy and potentially RoF by keeping the gun on target after each shots...

Antenna makes sense unless you think the missiles in EVE are fly-by-wire or dumbfire rockets...
