I've been selling refined ore via sell orders in Jita & sometimes Amarr for a long time in medium quantities. Having read all around the place that compressed ore is more profitable to sell I tried to put a few sell orders.

The first thing I noticed is that it sells much slower than refined ore. And after about an hour only half of my sell orders needed to be adjusted due to 0.01 play, which is unbelievable for Jita. Also there is practically no compressed ore sell orders in other trade hubs.

From that I concluded that the compressed ore market is not as fast moving and vivid as the market of the refined ore. Though there are twice as many buy orders than sell orders, compressed ore sells slowly compared to refined counterpart.

Was my observation wrong?

Thanks for your tips on how to sell ore. For the moment I'm sticking to refined ore only.

Compressed ore was more profitable because of mexallon content which was needed in null. It was also really profitable since fully upgraded null stations had much higher reprocessing bonuses, thus compressed ores could be bought for a higher price and still came out in profit after reprocessing. With changes to Null/Low sec ore compositions, the reliance on compressed ore as sole mexallon bearing material has lessened. Subsequently the people who have buy orders are low sec or independant nullsec industrialists who dont have the manpower to mine nullsec ore. The big players who were buying up compressed ore from sell orders in order to import them to null, are part of the blocs that have access to mining divisions.

And mynnna doesnt play compressed game anymore i think.

Compressed ore is still the optimum way to buy and trade in ore or minerals. At the very least you will be able to sell it for the same price as the reprocessed mineral value. In addition depending on how much m3 of it is being transported it can be handled with a DST. This negates the use of freighters entirely and therefore you are at far less risk of losing your ship during transport.

From whatever way you look at it trading in or converting ore to the compressed format is a win/win option.

I have found that compressed ore is actually (in some cases) about 20% under highsec pos refined value, I am happy Blink as it lessons my costs :)
I am under the impression this must be what has been transported out of null as its often the Ark/Bistot/Crokite that im getting super cheap.
In terms of highsec ores, i often find that its about 10-20% over the market price based on refined values based on pos highsec refinery.
If i could buy ALL my minerals in compressed format at a comparable value i would be a happy bunny :) as the person above says it would reduce my haulage costs no end, Nothing like moving 1-3bill units of trit in freighters
