Ganking freighters ideas to add < content> to that :)

Forbid Ganking of freighters!

Just trolling here :) But I have some ideas to add some -content- (as gankers often say :) ) to the game.

Deep in their hearts gankers also feel that ganking freighters in high sec is...well....boring...

Lets help them by giving them some challenges.

1) Make a new militia. Something like -Concorde Posse- -Concorde Aid- -Concorde Deputies-
They get the right to attack criminal flagged targets like Concorde itself. But they could be present allready :) No waiting time for that.
Keep in mind that they would fly normal ships, so super concord ones. So being able to shoot at a group of 20 criminal flagged cats wont make it a sure thing they would let you.
But if a group would decide to make high sec safe(r) and come also with 20 it would be ...well interesting.

2) Make it possible to aid others without being flagged as criminal yourself. Aid only would consist of repairers. The help can only be done by an unarmed ship, only having defensive equipment and reps. They should be able to lock on a target and start repping without getting flagged. Be aware: webbers would still be offensive weapons. Again a small logistic ship would hardly make any difference and be killed in secs by the gank fleet...but now there would be a way for a group to actively do something against ganks.

Be honest, atk or afk as a freighter you are just dead if they want you dead. With these two ideas you could get an opposing force and bring extra tension to it. I dont expect active anti gank groups in every system at every time. But the fact it could be adds flavor to it in my believe.

3) One of my favourites that never will see daylight i guess, but i need to share :)

A module that can disguise a ship as freighter with cargo. So maybe it isnt a freighte you attack :) In military history deception is used more then once.
And offcourse a module that can disguise a freighter as ..a shuttle? .. but only for the radar not for visual...

I think others could add some deception modules aswell :)

#2 sounds like it would have the opposite effect you are intending. If logi isn't flagged as criminal what is to stop gankers from bringing logi themselves?

#3 I think a more realistic option would be to have a module that "disrupts" cargo scanners and shows the ship being scanned down as having an empty cargo hold. Of course this could just cause gankers to attack everything...which would be kind of funny to be honest.

People already can attack criminal flagged players freely.

Repping someone in highsec flags you because neutral logi is a ***** to deal with (I assume).

Something to disrupt cargo scanners could be a cool idea.

Ultimately if a freighter is AFK then he messed up, and he is dead. If someone wants to organize a defense force for their freighter then all the power to them. It could be fun, it could totally suck. All I know for sure if that most freight pilots probably wont dip into their profit margins to hire defensive mercs. There are ways to get in the way of ganks, and there are ways to make ganks harder/unprofitable for the gankers it just requires effort and assets. Two things a lot of people aren't willing to commit to something they don't really care about.

1a. This is already the case.

- Anyone can freely engage people who have a suspect timer. A suspect timer is started when...
------ people take loot from a can/wreck that is not flagged to them,
------ people remote rep someone who is a "suspect" and/or has a "weapon's flag,"
------ a person has a -5.0 or lower security status

- Anyone can freely engage people who have a criminal timer. A criminal timer is started when...
------ people attack someone in high-sec without a limited engagement and/or duel timer.
------ no restrictions apply here. Fire at will (if you can before CONCORD shows up).


2a. Already the case.
You can remote repair ANYONE without getting a suspect timer as long as the person you are repping does not shoot back.
In fact... remote repairing a freighter IS a legitimate tactic and does have the potential to save the freighter. However, it is much more labor intensive (and a fair bit more risky) compared to the "Intsa-warp Webbing Trick"... hence why you rarely see it.


3a. Old idea that pops up from time to time. We actually have this in some sense already. Look up the stats of some T1 Industrial ships. You CAN combat fit them. And there are (hilarious) situations where people DO kill others with them.
However... like the original Q-Boats in World War II... they are terrible in almost any scenario where the primary objective is quick and outright destruction from the beginning (i.e. ganking tactics).
Q-Boats only excelled when the hostile ship was up close and attempting to capture them or was doing something else entirely (like being repaired or resupplied).

I should add one thing though... this tends to apply to smaller transport ships. Freighters are the equivalent of Supertankers and massive cargo vessels. It is nearly impossible to combat fit those in any decent sense due to their size and hyper-specialized nature.
There is a reason those Somali Pirates were so successful taking over ships several orders of magnitude larger than them. A few well placed RPGs in the right places and the huge ships would be crippled and/or sinking.
