Should be able to spectate through the ingame client somehow, would probably be easy to implement and wouldn't cause any extra effort for CCP on the first weekend.
yeah ez pz, why didn't CCP think about it earlier
probably just couple of hours of coding
right?

So CCP have gone to all the bother of setting up a studio to broadcast from at their headquarters and put together the o2 show on twitch, and have then decided not to broadcast the very event that most players tune in to watch????

Is the AT still the premium yearly event or not?

If it's not worth broadcasting then it's not worth watching.

Would it be possible to record the fights and put them up on YouTube, even if they can't be streamed? Would still allow multiple fights at a time (hence the compression) and yet would still let players see the fights (even if its a day late)

So first no New Eden Open and now no streaming of the first weekends matches at all? Doing a heck of a job killing interest in the big events CCP!

As everyone else has mentioned, this is pretty disappointing. Watching through Crest doesn't come close to watching the real thing.

I really want to add one more comment on why CREST is a poor substitute. EVE is a social game and the AT is a big social event. For the last New Eden Open and AT, I watched the streams, joined the live chat with others and really enjoyed the experience of talking with everyone about what was happened because the stream was pretty much at the same time for everyone. The first rounds actually pulled me into wanting to do more PVP. But that was watching live with others. CREST is delayed data. Even if you try to watch using CREST, assuming the sites that run it could even support 10% of the load that watches the Twitch streams (which I doubt), you aren't going to have the same experience because any attempt to have the same real-time chatting will be a disjointed mess.

This is essentially taking half of some of the best entertainment and turning it into something from the telegraph/tape delay era of sports. It's really like taking the first week of the NCAA March Madness Basketball Tournament (and all the crazy stuff that happens on that weekend) or the group stage of the World Cup and saying it won't be on TV at all but you can watch a replay on an internet gamecast about ten minutes delayed if the website works. Any fool would see how dumb that it is. This is really the same level of foolishness.

While I'm sad that the first weekend won't be broadcast, I completely understand why after being on the inside of it the last two years.

Saying that ATXI was exhausting is an epic understatement. Perhaps in part because the studio that year was a sauna where a chocolate bar would have melted before you could open the wrapper, but those days were brutally long, and I can remember that the pilots on various teams felt the same way. As I recall Pandemic Legion were so exhausted by the time they got to the finals there was talk of them wanting to just forfeit and take second place so they could go to bed.

ATXII was more manageable, but the sheer number of people involved in the production alone is reason enough not to do it. In addition, these are people who give up their weekends for three weeks or a month depending. The commentators would arrive at the CCP offices at 11 am or so as I recall, and the GMs and devs were there well before us for the most part. Obviously, we didn't leave until late in the evening, and the GMs and devs were typically there for a while after we had left shutting things down for the night.

I'm trying to figure out whether we'll be on Eve TV or not.

It's double elimination. So that means - I think - we play at least 2 matches no matter what.

Is one match played on the first weekend and then the losers' bracket on the second or could both matches be played on the first weekend.

Not sure whether we'll need our Hello Mum T-shirts.

Based on what they said in the original dev blog, your first two matches are during the first weekend.

If they follow (and likely they will) the usual way of doing the first two rounds, you will have one match on Saturday, and one match on Sunday.

Hopefully some sort of alternative broadcasting of the fights will be set up (pretty please CCP!)... but ya, if you lose both your first matches, you won't be on EveTV.

Which would be a shame, cause I'd love to watch Brave's first two fights!!

Guess this means, Callduron, that Brave needs to win at least one, to make it to the second weekend!

Is a match a single game or is it best of 3?

The first round is just a single match.

You do know not every presenter works for CCP right?

They have to fly out from their Country, over to Iceland, away from their families.

I don't hate anyone in the Universe enough to wish that on them!

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

I'm with the majority here and I feel like not broadcasting the first weekend is very disappointing. As many have said it does not need to be a full studio affair or even have commentators, but it would still be nice to see the matches. It seems that CCP need to seriously think about putting in more resources to the Tournament.... I think it should be made a top priority at CCP.

After spending some time in open and private practices, seeing what people are coming up with this year thanks to the rules and points changes, I can say with absolute certainty it would be a crying shame and a tremendous missed entertainment opportunity to not broadcast the first weekend. There are going to be some amazing fights, unbelievable hilarity, huge upsets, and epic fails during the first weekend.

The entertainment value of the first weekend is, in my humble opinion, shaping up to be epic. Rumor has it ya'll are working on some sort of alternative streaming of the first weekend, and I sure hope you can work something out!

Pretty please :)

So with the conclusion of a (mostly) successful test yesterday, I'm pleased to announce that ISD have graciously offered to stream from in system the first weekend of Alliance Tournament XIII (complete with Fancy UI). There are no current plans for ISD to also provide commentary, but I already know a number of people that are planning to restream with their own commentary over the top.

More details to come. We would have liked to announce this earlier, but we needed to run the tests to make sure it was going to work before we promised anything.

(I might add that this is an excellent way of getting some content to use when applying for future AT commentator positions)
