Macs are not ment for gamming. Never have been. Dont care what PR firms has to say. Macs are more on the design and productivity end.

Wait till windows 10 comes out then there will be a big PC sale and you can get a PC like the rest of the world you hippy.

anyone got a link for Linux handy?

You know that the Game Developers will have to make their game compatible with windows 10

And I hope CCP does have a fix for Windows 10 when it comes out on the 29/07/2015

So to CCP hop to it and get the hamsters working on that code to fix it for Windows 10 Big smileP

Upgrading to win 10 is purely optional, it is not an automatic update, and you have to opt in to get it and then it will download when it is released and you will get a notification that it is ready to install and you can do this at a time that is convenient for you.

So if you are in any way concerned with win 10 then wait a couple of days and keep an eye on tech forums and watch for people having problems you are not prepared to deal with and if this is true wait a month or two after it is released so that they can fix it.

http://store.steampowered.com/steamos

Steam OS is simply an optimized Debian Linux for gaming with steam preinstalled.

If you use your machine for work I would recomend Ubuntu or Debian.

If you are not afraid of computers and want full controll over your stuff try Arch or Gentoo.

You can play games on all of them, they all use the same software, just the tools to manage the system some pilosophies and and how it is built together is different.

EDIT:
I never used Windows to play EVE, since my last Windows was win98b. I never had a problem running it under Linux with wine.

Quite so terrible it is skimming the forum when I am tired. I only picked up the first six words of the topic. What?

Any input from CCP on this?
Even if Cider keeps working for the coming month's, me and my AMD card are going to be even more punished now like the 2 year medium shader clamp?

(And yes I know I'm currently on my way out but was planning on coming back some day)

I think I found your biggest problem. I bolded it, underlined it and italicized it.

Yep I have my windows restore flash drive ready. Getting windows 10 for free from MS and making a system image file back up daily. WIndows 10 goes belly up then I'll just roll back to windows 7.

Jumps in the way back machine. Back in the early to mid 80's as a C64 lover back then I wouldn't have had a PC owner as a friend.

You understand that windows isn't the only PC OS, right? And that a mac is just a PC with a heavily marked up prices and a skinned version of unix on it, right?

Every time microsoft release a new version of windows there's cries of how terribly evil it's going to be, and every time it's just an OS.

I got a PC and a Mac, Windows is trash compared to OSX... everybody telling you the opposite simply can not afford a mac or never used one... it's good only 10% have it, not everybody is driving a Jaguar either

it depends what customers you want as a company, without question you would prefer mac users...

Up till recently I only owned Mac's because I'm a professional but still enjoyed playing EVE to escape this crazy world. At some point you just get used to the constant crashes, locks, and random quirkiness. Not too mention it was basically a requirement to run EVE on the lowest settings to have the best reliability with Cider.

Worst experience ever!

But then I built a Hackintosh and now have the luxury of booting into Windows when I want to play EVE.

The argument to "just buy a PC" is invalid when a game markets itself as being compatible with "OSX and Windows". Why should mac owners be punished for trying to play a game that markets itself as being compatible?

It's like if EVE only ran well the latest version of Windows but you prefer to run Windows 7. "Just upgrade Windows" they would say but out of principle you would say "No, it should work with Windows 7 because they say it does".

I have no idea what this is even about. As someone who plays eve on an iMac, and has had no issues running it... I don't get what is even happening in this thread.

Although it has flip-flopped a lot over time, Apple has had a tendency to prefer AMD GPUs to nVidia ones. Now nVidia as acquired the company that produces the wrapper software that CCP uses to distribute EVE on OSX.

The OP is afraid that this will mean that the wrapper's support for advanced graphics features will start to suffer, at least as long as you run on AMD hardware.

The rest is just teenagers (or adults re-enacting their teenage years) ignorantly engaging in console wars.

It's even less then that as both platforms use the exact same hardware. It's an OS war at this point.

The RISC architecture is a superior design but that was the only part that was superior about macs. The OS was a modified version of BSD and the rest of the components used have always been cheap.

A simple solution is to use bootcamp and just boot into windows when you want to play eve or any other game.

Oh, SURE, give support to the fat-cats of the printer ink cartel whilst ignoring those of us in the freedom-loving, security-minded OpenBSD crowd (well, it's not really big enough to be a crowd). I'm certain you corporate lackeys won't support my chosen OS (should I ever get it to recognize my DVD drive and/or NIC so that I can finally successfully install, that is).
