Is there any way I can set up the overview so that all players' ships show up in coloured text? I can't see anything obvious in the settings but probably wouldn't recognise it anyway.

Ever hopeful

Appearance - background. Some are already checked, like criminals and enemies. All you need to add are the different standing levels. You can also select colours there, other than defaults.

Not sure if you can change the actual text colour on the overview, but there a few ways to customise things.

First, let me warn you that the overview is showing its age and is pretty flakey. Of course. some say the same about me. So to start with its best to click top left "Overview Settings > Export Overview Settings" to make a backup copy of your existing profile.

Under "Appearance > Backgrounds" I personally find that changing your "reds" to "yellows" makes the text stand out much more clearly. It also makes it easier to see the flashing red boxes that identify which ships have aggressed you.

If you go to "Overview Tabs" the box labelled "Tab Names" will accept HTML. This article explains how: Coloured Overview Tabs

If you go to the tab "Ships" you can also use HTML in those tiny boxes. Since they are too small to see what you type it's best to do it in notepad then Ctrl+C (copy) and Ctrl+V (paste). This will change the appearance of the labels you see on ships in space. A word of warning - it is very easy to get carried away with this one and turn your screen into a total mess. Even worse, you may not find out until you come across a large fleet in space and your screen goes technicolor. Play around with it somewhere safe, and be ready with that backup.

Thanks for the information. As an experiment everyone now shows as vivid orange. My tabs are multicloured.

There are also several overview creators in the net that create a config file for you to import, there are also several "OV-packs" available such as SARA's that even have an ingame channels and regular updates via mail lists because of new possibility of sharing OV-settings with links.

Sarashawa's overview is excellent and with a couple of personal tweaks it becomes perfect. I recommend joining that channel and installing that overview pack.

New Eden isn't nice. It isn't friendly. It isn't very hospitiable. Good thing there are people here to shoot in the face.
