While the visually impared may be a small part of the community. It is absolutely horrible on any video game company to overlook these disabilities when dealing with such a huge change.like this.

PS: I hate the icon change personally but for different reasons. Hopefully though they do something to help with this. Such as the ability to change the icon colors themselves since the backgrounds are damn near impossible.

Supported on all counts.

Colour blindness is a condition that occurs regularly enough that it simply should not be ignored like this.

As someone with normal eyesight I find the icon lines too thin and annoying to look at. I really hope this design will be improved soon.

But...

There are other colours available in the overview setup. If the OP has an issue seeing or differentiating between blue and red, set them to yellow and green instead, or white and black, or white and green or whatever.

It is only the centre of each icon that is faded. The outline, or edge is solid. So the same as the old icons. Reducing the resolution of your monitor can make things bigger, the UI can be made bigger in the general tab of the esc menu, etc etc etc.

While I support the idea of having options available to increase the useability for people living with visual issues, I feel that this could be a stealth 'I don't like the new icons so change them back' thread.

There are many ways ingame of making the icons useable to people who are colour-blind, as mentioned in my first sentence.

Some UI effects can be disabled (fde, transparency, theme etc). Also, ones monitor or graphics control panel can be used to reduce / increase contrast, saturation, colour, gamma etc.

If you have the option in your graphics panel of your card, turn off Morphological Filtering to make things much sharper ingame.

If you have tried all of these things and are still having issues, it would be worth taking up with your CSM.

I suppose CCP could have made it so that the colour of icons could be changed in space and on the overview rather than just having overlays in the overview, but I dunno how much extra effort this would involve.

You dont think a colorblind person has tried all which you described yet? I doubt i'm the only one who starts a new game, and then first of all checks all the color settings in order to get something which works. CCP is making it harder and harder though. As it stands now, i can manage, but have to doublecheck everything before i do something.

Old system: you can customise all the colors.
New system: here, choose from these faded colors.

This is a bad trend for colorblind persons. I suggest you look at the link provided earlier in the thread to see how a colorblind person actually see's the colors. Maybe try inputting your own screenshot there and see if you can see the difference clearly in the blink of an eye ;). It's not as easy as you make it out to be unfortunately.

I support this, being a PvP'er, this is annoying, the only thing that has helped me is that every ship class now has their own icon (Rather than shuttles/frigs/dessies all being a small box). But if it were the new or the old, I would want to revert back to old. I mean, even from a coding aspect, it wouldn't be too hard to make it a graphics setting to switch between the two. The resource packs for the old graphics still exist.

We like the way CCP made freighters a big fat floating target, some one at the company must have an evil sense of humour. Evil

Many popular games have options to help people with Colour blindness, I can't see why the developers can assist with this one. I certainly agree this should be fixed.

Absolutely supported. Colorblindness is not a rare condition (relatively speaking). I do not suffer from it myself, but I can't sanction the icon changes if they make it more difficult for people with disabilities.

Wait i'm a tad confused.

If you are pvping, couldn't you just set up your overview to get rid of all green, blu and purple, and just keep orange, red and neut? then basically anything on the overview you shoot?

You wouldn't need colors to differentiate anything, cause everything on the overview is fair game.

Or can;t you just adjust your own background colors on the overveiw so it will blink red is its a viable target? or blink blue, or purple, or orange or whatever?

I'm not color blind, so don;t have this issue, and the new icons don;t really bother me, but i guess i'm saying.. i don;t get issue? The icons have changed but the settings you used before when the icons were white and red should not of changed... so.. someone mind explaining the issue?

Not color blind but being in Faction Warfare I have had to setup my overview to avoid friendly fire on others that are in either Galmil or Minmatar FW that might have bad security status. The tools are there set the overview to over come most short coming in the game or visual limitations as the OP mentioned.

Yea.. i just don;t understand. if you had color blind issues before the icons changed, how did you handle it? The color of the icons are the same, they just changed shape and maybe the overview blends a bit.. but red is still red, and white is still white. So.. again the issue is what exactly?

I never had color issues like that, the color differences in the game are clear cut.

I suggest you look at the link which has been added in the original post. The one which simulates colorblindness. And then praise yourself lucky that you dont have that issue ;)

For a lot of people the colors aren't clear cut, because our bodies just physically can't see the colors.

I have Red-Green issues. What that means is when you have mixed pigments of red and green next to each other I have a hard time separating them. Of course the closer you get to their true colors (cherry red or granny apple green) I have no problem with.

Same here!

I mostly do industry to support our PvP-guys (like Sbrodor and his gang) and don't need to do the split second decision he (as a FC) has to do.
But I still see the increased difficulty when looking at several fleets clustered around a Stargate for example.
Greater difference between the colors (where possible) and no opacitiy as an option would probably greatly increase the fun-time in game.

I can't understand why CCP is so focused on "a consistent user experience". UI mods for EvE should be allowed/ made possible so that problems like these can be avoided by the community instead of CCP themselves having to try and design an interface that suits everybody (hint: it's impossible).

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

There seems to be the old trend once more within CCP, to ignore feedback and run with it anyway. Tool tips, neocons, now icons and I'm sure others I have not mentioned. Change is all well and good, but when you have design over function and pride gets in the way of changing that, we have a problem.

new icons arent only an issue for color blind people. For me its difficult because there is no quick way to identify ship on overview. Prior change, a rectangle bracket was always a ship, now they disappear among the mass of all other overview symbols so you easily miss a ship there.

CCP should introduce some feature which would allow us to quickly distinct ships from non-ships on overview, without having to read the type column of overview.
