The format and schedule is already set for this year beyond the point where we can significantly alter it, however we'll take the feedback in this thread very much into consideration when we're planning AT XIV and other future tournaments.

There are also alternative arrangements being made for people to be able to watch the first weekend.

The decision to run three weekends with the first unbroadcast wasn't down to the tournament team this year, but thanks for the continued support of the Alliance Tournament, it's very much appreciated by all the guys who put in the long hours to make it happen.

Thanks for the reply, and this is the is the most important thing for us.
Even if it's only recorded and posted on youtube, post match or even the next day or two, is fine.
As long as we can see it and aren't forced to use something like null-sec

I think I'd rather have a petition requesting CCP to make the AT more than an event run through the voluntary efforts of staff on top of their other work.

It's supposed to be one of the premier showcase events and it's not part of the official work program of the company.

Id also like the first week to be streamed, but I'm not so sure I'd like volunteers within CCP to have to devote even more of their spare time just to appease that desire.

How many of us do anything similar to the level of extra work some of the CCP staff put in for us?

Perhaps 1 PLEX to watch the AT.
2 PLEX for source 1080P.

It makes sense because it's efficient. You can schedule several matches at the same time so the eliminations happen faster. Makes it difficult to stream when they're all live at the same time. I think this is the scheduling part that Falcon mentioned.

The bigger issue is how uninteresting it is to watch an EVE fight. My suggestion is red or green numbers that pop up from the hulls as damage or reps are applied. It's hardly original, but it conveys the action better, and bridges the gap between a dot in the feed and the team damage meters.

Something like this. More interesting and visceral than dedicating half the stream's real estate to text and health bars. The offense / defense strength bars can stay.

Make the damage start from the 12'oclock position, oriented to the nose of the ship, and it's a heading indicator too. Maybe on the "floor" like this would be better to not obscure the ship.

I wouldn't mind seeing that in the regular client. I could stare at my Kaalakiota SKINned Golem directly while I carebear mission.

Showcase the ships. Reduce the dots.

While this would be more aesthetic, it is much less user friendly, and even less legible. I like being able to tell how the match is going as a glance, and not have to pause and look closely at ships to figure it out. Fact is, the tournament is best viewed in a mostly text-interface based format. That's just because of the way eve works.

Then don't watch it.

For my part, I think the past couple of ATs and the World Collide Event were very exciting and interesting to see. You don't need a ton of numbers creeping over the screen for it to be interesting and to see what happens.

And I don't think seeing numbers pop up all over the screen would make the fight more interesting to see. For that to be viable you'd alway have to have wide shots with all ships on screen, and that would simply clutter up the screen. Besides, it doesn't add excitement to the fight, just more information.

Would formula one be more interesting if you could always see speed, fuel level, and gear of every car? I highly doubt it, either the race itself is interesting or not.

That would just kill it faster than CCP would otherwise be able to do.

The client has twitch integration. If there is a judge sitting on grid, there is literally no reason not to stream each match. ofc, there would be 2 simultaneous streams, one for each arena.

Yeah, I sign too.

Never has there been so futile use of isk than in tournaments early rounds.

And I just love all those "blue and red dots flying around"-camera views too, so don´t bother yourselves too much with this, not hard.

EDIT: oh ok, next year then.

Thank you for response, but honestly all you are doing is downplaying the importance of your own tourneys. Think about it for one second, what you are saying is "our tourney is so unwatchable we will not even broadcast the first round. We will not make even the most rudimentary attempt to put someone on a computer to broadcast it. We realize there is is no need for commentators and we could just broadcast using basic streaming sites, but we think we have planned this enough in advance and cannot possibly alter anything in the dozens of days pending".

Interpretation: even CCP does not value the tourney.

Is there a way to watch the match using the Crest data? Seems like I remember one from last year using a browser.

The CREST data will be available as before.

http://www.null-sec.com will likely stream the matches live via CREST like last year, so each match can be followed. I hope they do anyway.

You can access the last two tournaments and watch the 3D replays through the link at top right of the homepage.

That's pretty great. The problem is how it's all a mystery for people who don't have enough of an understanding of the ships to recognize what's going on at a glance.

The 3D view is almost better than watching the tournament with commentary. The only thing I want to see is ship names next to their square.

8/10... the only things missing from being 10/10 are ship names and health indicators at each square. I think it's bad that you have to take your eyes away from the brawl to look at health indicators (like it is in-client).

Honestly, I am very disappointed in the decision this year.

I do not want to post harsh criticism, but this was a poor decision. It seems to indicate a lack of confidence by CCP in its own product.

How long have all the matches been broadcast? Has it been since the first one? Why this change now? Why did you not think at all of your audience? Are you showing the broadcasts for the few who were actually consulted about this decision? It appears those few are the only ones whom CCP deemed mattered.

And all of us who pay to play, rather than get paid to make bad decisions, we now know how little we matter.

So you saved a little money.... Nice! What if a good number of us cancel just one account for a month to drive home that totally excluding your paying customers from decisions that change one of the truly big traditions in this game is not going to prove to be a rewarding one for CCP?

Edit: So the work has been done voluntarily, etc. WoW I am pleasantly surprised by the dedication of those volunteering, and even more disappointed in the company. Seems to me in my relatively short time here that the AT every year has been amazingly good advertising for the game, entertaining for the paying players, instructive to all who are involved in fleet pvp, and just a huge positive for the game. Something that could be so positively and productively used, instead being dismantled.

Honor is earned.

The problem with the CREST fights from null-sec.com is that they are limited in scope.
You can't zoom in and see module effects, there's not audio at all.
And you can't make out strategic tactics, such as tinker, MJD, etc. etc...

It's a tool that's really only good for tournament competitors and theory crafters.
