more like Knights Templar, Knights Hospitaller or Teutonic Knights.

All this Orders have as priority to serve and help the poor people and protect them from their enemies.

But all them have dark secretsRoll

They are nothing like knights.

And their secrets are far darker.

From those i would say Knights Hospitaller are the closest to them.

But the reality is more complicated.

Think of them as sort of a bastard child of the Red Cross and the knights templar.

Hello :)

Forgive my confusion, but what "dark secrets" do those military orders have?

On the matter of real world parallels for the S.o.E. it is hard to draw a direct comparison, but I would agree that the Order of the Knights of Saint John would be the best comparison. Though again absent the "dark secrets."

The "dark secrets" people are talking are scientific advancements that are kept in secret by SOE labs. SOE scientists also journey to a places prohibited and they basically steal some things, as the things they want, are not theirs, even when owners are long gone.

That can bring very unexpected results.

No, no I meant the "dark secrets" of the military orders which I take was implied by the comparison to the S.o.E.? I am not aware of them having any.

Thanks for the response though :)

There is chronicle that explains some "grey" sides of SOE.

There are many rumours about the military orders dark secrets in the medieval age...They were richer from any kingdom of Europe, they were the first bankers and had great influence in all kingdoms. They demands was order for any king. The Templars for example have in their position some great relics and have secret connections with the muslims etc....

They're sort of like a cross between Red Cross and NASA, they work for public benefit more than anything else.

It should also be noted that not liking capsuleers and wanting to undermine them isn't so much a dark, sinister agenda as being... well, basically still the good guys. The capsuleers are pretty unequivocally the villains of New Eden, with the exception of like one or two missions in the entire GAME.

People keep proposing that they're concealing information from the capsuleers and working with our potential enemies as if that's something evil, when in fact that's a perfectly reasonable thing for anyone even trying to work in the general public interest to do.

SoE are the champions of the Poor only because the SoE keep the Poor in fact poor in order to be such champions. Otherwise SoE would be regulated to the best brothels and entertainment liners across New Eden. Or is it that they control such luxury liners to in fact make Capsuleers poor in order to become the champions of?

It's really up to you to decide as their value is dependent on much you donate to the Poor to be their champions instead.

Give to the poor to be their champions and it bolsters the image of SoE. So no matter which way you go they are always the champions.
