And now I'm off to get seriously drunk.

An end to an era.

What is it with losing all of our great actors this year?

Man, he will be missed. He could put presence on the screen in a way few others could.

He stabbed nazies, was a bond villain, was one of the few good actors in the new star wars films, was saruman, did a heavy metal album and was the scientist in gremlins 2.

And check this out: he was also an international man of danger during World War II and after. And he re-read The Lord of the Rings every year.

12. He was almost Magneto as well. Basically, the only major franchise Lee didn’t have some role in seems to be comic books, but he was almost there, too. During the casting for the X-Men films, he was seriously considered for the role of Magneto. As with Gandalf, Lee ceded that part to the younger Ian McKellen, who obviously did quite well with both roles.

Wow..just wow.
I liked McKellen's performance, but I always thought Lee would have been the best Magneto possible...I never knew they really considered him for this role.

For those who didn't know, during WW2 Mr. Lee was a JEDBURGH agent.

This involved being airdropped into German-occupied Europe (not always France) and hooking up with the local resistance groups, if any. If no resistance groups existed, it was their job to create some.

Hilarity would then ensue.

Not much of a surprise that after the war, Lee went into acting....he already had passed the audition, so to speak.

As a former military intel type myself, the vast majority of us in Da Biz had tremendous respect for the man.

The fact he was Dracula was icing on the cake...:)

Basically, he was the real James Bond.

He must have found it ironic when he got to be in a Bond movie later on......

Truly a film legend. Outstanding actor, and WWII veteran. In over 250 movies. When I was a kid, his Dracula scared the,.... out of me.

One of my all time favorite actors and a veteran of the winter war Sad
I always loved his voice. It was deep/dark and soft at the same time.

Worry not. The legends of tomorrow are being forged today. Channing Tatum for instance. And Kit Harington.
