system_activity_index is the index we’re creating, the formula is:

Thank you for the formula, but there's no information how often it updates - some say it is once every 5 minutes, others that on job submission. Smile

It's neither of those.

Given Bad Bobby's reply, I figured he knew the answer, so I searched his posts Idea

I'm not actually sure how accurate that is now.

The index update job certainly runs at least once per hour and you can certainly jam in hundreds of industry jobs between runs. That's the approach I've been taking and it's working well both as a method of limiting costs and discouraging other people from using the same build system as me.

I'll try to pay closer attention to the index update when I cycle my jobs next.

Ok, I did a small amount of production today. It was split across two build locations so that should give us better data. Here are my findings:

  • I started my first production session at 13:17. The index at my first build station was 2.12%.
  • I submitted 165 jobs of 30+ days each at my first build station. The index remained 2.12% for each job.
  • I completed the production session at 13:50. The index was still 2.12%. I then went to refill my beer glass.
  • Upon returning to my PC with my beer reserves replenished, I saw that the index was still 2.12%.
  • At 14:06 the index for my first build location increased to 4.49%.
  • I started my second production session at 14:17. The index at my second build station was 4.28%.
  • I submitted 33 jobs of 30+ days each at my second build station. The index remained 4.28% for each job.
  • I completed the production session at 14:29. The index was still 4.28%. I then set about loading my bong.
  • At somewhere between 15:04-15:08 the index for my second build location increased to 4.62%.
  • The index at my first build location remained unchanged at 4.49%.

I think that confirms my theory.

Thank you, Bobby.

Still doesn't answer whether it updates 5 minutes into the new hour, or fifty minutes from launching all those jobs. Smile

Erm, it confirms that neither of those are true.

The schedule of the hourly index update probably has more to do with when downtime finishes than anything else.
