Let's keep this quick, if im in a proteus with a 100m3 drone bay ( for example ) and using a mobile depot I switch to a subsystem which drops my drone bay to 50m3, if I had 100m3 of drone sin the drone bay what will happen to them?

Hmm, never tried, one would assume if it was properly programmed it won't let you remove the subsystem without removing the drones. Then again, few things like this are properly programmed.

Can test in a few hours but not home ATM...

This likely applies to drones

ill further complicate it then , not enough room in the cargo hold, what then?

RIP drones, they all went rogue at some point.

Back to discussion - if you don't have enough cargo space a lil pop up window with warning message appear.

I remember having a weird bug where I was in a cloaky Proteus with probes out, I recalled them and it caused my cargo to go above maximum. It then did not allow me to warp my ship so I had to decloak, jettison some of my stuff into a container before I could warp.

Not sure if this would apply to this drone issue but it's possible. Best way to find out: try it.

In circumstances where a change (from a patch generally) leaves bays or slots overloaded the ship will be unable to undock (not applicable in this situation I know) or warp as I recall.
I would assume that the same would apply in this situation if switching subs allows the creation of a bay overload situation.

Edit:
I'm reminded of an occasion where a different "rule" applied...
I had an expanded probe launcher fitted, I had sisters combat probes loaded but I had recovered my scanner probes and, not noting the difference in volumes, decided to switch load to the scan probes while simultaneously looting a hacking can...
The result was that there was insufficient space in my cargo for the combat probes when the reload cycle completed.
In this instance the Sisters Combat Probes simply disappeared. (which was annoying as the junk I had in cargo wouldn't pay for one of them).

This is exactly what happens, you get a modal window with a warning about cargo and you are prevented from warping, I have done this with the legion before.

I knew the answer I was just hoping someone would come out with something funny (good job TiddlBlink)

On a related note, does the modal window you get when swapping subs in space make anyone else nervous?

I mean almost the whole damn ship goes offline and then you have this window you can't click past, seems a bit much to me.
