Why are people flying with unfitted ships?

I read lots of kill mails and I have noticed that lots of people fly with ships that have one or more empty slots. Is fitting ships in EVE too slow stuff or is there other reason for not having fully fitted ships? Should contract system have better interface for selling fitted ships so it could become business for some to fit ships for others?

This is open discussion why EVE capsuleers fly with ships that have empty slots and what could be done to fix this problem?

I fly unfitted when it is either brand new (I only do this in high sec) or if I'm just trying to get somewhere

This is only a problem if you are obsessed with killboard stats.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Anyone else remember that thread here about a year or two ogo where a cap pilot (I want to say Phoenix?) Undocked to have a look at his new ship without first fitting the damn thing, couldn't redock and was asking for help.

Within five minutes ge posted again" never mind, someone blew it up [sad face ]".

I use Antimatter and Void S to solve this problem. CCP doesn't need to do anything, we got this.

Sometimes fitting is tight, the only mod that would fit is barely useful at all, local prices are just a scam and the next station wirh decent prices is 20 iumps away. In those cases I just don't care my fit has a tooth missing Blink

Also, on topic, unfitted ship seem to be kinda good at plexing on the cheap...

Was this the guy who tried using a highsec gate? There was a TMC article about a guy who bought a Phoenix in lowsec to do highsec PVE. When he tried jumping the Phoenix into highsec, well...

If you're talking all slots being empty, I don't know, maybe they just bought it.

If you're talking 1 slot empty, CCP balances ships based on "all skills at 5", and especially the power grid and CPU are limited on most ships. Create a newbie and try to fit a standard T1 cruiser with medium modules, and you'll see you won't have enough grid to fill all the slots, even if you go for the smallest medium guns (talking about a fit that's appropriate, rather than random).

Otherwise, filling up the slots may not make sense. Specific example: T1 industrial fitted for cheap, for carrying junk. I can put a cloak, tractor beam, mining laser, or gun in them high slots, but why add one or more 2-million-ISK module to a ship that otherwise costs about 800k (fitted with T1 cargo expanders and T1 cheapo shield extenders and hardeners)? Adding a non-covops cloak would just give the gankers better kill stats (same with tractor, laser, or gun - gun is useless if I'm warp-stabbed in all low slots).

OP, maybe they can't find what they need in the system they're in, so they're traveling to another to fit up. just a thought.
