Capital Mining Ship (Seriously)

The problem with mining in lowsec is that you either take such a hit to efficiency that you may as well mine high-sec veldspar, or you'll die faster than you can blink to the first roaming gang to look in your general direction.

The problem with a Hulk isn't asteroid gank, it can chew those up nicely. It's real tank.

So, lets add a capital sized ship that has a tank that can survive your average roaming gang for at least long enough that something can be done about them.

Mining yield -exactly the same as a Hulk. We don't need more of this.

A ship maintenance Bay that can hold a ~4 Battleships, that way other miners can swap out their hulks and fight back without having to go back to a station/POS. If you're going to make tissue paper that cost more than gold, nobody is going to use it if you can't save it

3 high slots for mining lasers.
8 mid slots for shield tanking/ECM
5 lows.

A ton of HP.

A corporate hangar array, or allow ore in the holds of ships placed in the SMB.

Maybe I'm just asking for an HP buff and a SMB buff on a Rorqual so it can, you know, actually be in the middle of an asteroid field.

It would be a waste of a ship. They added a capital mining support ship and all it does is hide in POSes to compress ore. It doesn't matter how many EHP it has. Nobody would risk flying a capital mining ship because of the cost.

I don't always post on the forums, but when I do, I post with my main.

It's not only some game mechanics but largely the fault of the players that PvP areas suck so bad, I honestly think if this were a game where player input had the most impact on things i.e. Counter-Strike, the problem is there is very little a small group or one player can do against these large gangs.

If CCP made bombs etc. more widely available then things might get moving again but meh buffing or nerfing certain ships isn't going to do a thing, especially since everyone will winge about them being OP all of a sudden.

"don't get us wrong, we don't want to screw new players, on the contrary. The core problem here is that tech 1 frigates and cruisers should be appealing enough to be viable platforms in both PvE and PvP."   - CCP Ytterbium

I'd rather recomend a capital ship with 6-8 strip miners with a yield equivalent to at least 5-10 hulks.

Naturally the cost should be equivalent to 5-10 hulks. This would make mining in low and especially 0,0 worth the trouble of hauling the ores back to high... In the current situation it's just not worth the fuss to mine in 0.0 unless you mine the high end ores.

I think such a mining-only capital ship would solve the problem of people finding mining not really profitable. Everyone would be happy - gankers because of the gank, pvpers because ships would be cheaper and miners because they'd mine more. And I'd even go as far as forcing a 5 minute siege timer to be able to mine with it at all (no mining capability without siege).

Or give a subcap miner rep bonuses so you can get a friendly combat fleet to defend?

No, the miners need to BE the combat fleet, otherwise the efficiency falls too far and you just go back to high-sec mining.

Lowsec mining needs to be both more profitable than high-sec and survivable. The next option would be to bolt a Hulk to the back of a battleship so you can have the best of both worlds (limit the ship to 3 strips and 2 MLUs). The reality is, having a combat fleet sit idle around mining vessels just doesn't work.

In my opinion, if you want to draw people into low-sec, it will need to be more profitable than nullsec mining. As it is, I don't understand Lowsec in terms of why the Empires keep it. At this point, I think the nullsec empires could win a war taking it from the NPC empires if it were at all technically possible. Low-sec needs a buff that matches why the NPC empires keep it, the NPC empires need capabilities that enforce that desire. Low-sec needs to be better than null-sec or it needs to be turned into crappy null sec.

I'm sorry Droxlyn, but even if you have fourteen hulks each with a full flight of drones with max skills behind each drone, any single HAC will **** all fourteen before you can get through armor, and that's if said HAC gets close enough. And that's one ship!

I've actually seen this from the hulk's point of view involving a nano-Ishtar using Sentries.

I'd have to say 'no' to this proposal, since I'd rather have a pair of niddrhogers perma-rring a group of hulks while helping gatecamps by having their fighters assigned to ships on the gate. If you can't bring up a proper support fleet for your hulks then you shouldn't be flying them where they die so easily.

Please CCP, make mining caps. I would absolutely LOVE to hot-drop them, especially in lowsec.

Love and kisses,

Just let the rorqual equip capital strip miners that can only mine low-end ore (ABCs don't need to be devalued anymore).

Rorquals will have a reason to leave their pos shields.
Industrialists in low/null will have a reason to mine minerals instead of import them.
Miners will have a way of staying competitive with drone region 'gunmining'
Gankers will have something big and shiny to gank in belts.

I propose something different.

take a Hulk, and give it more unbonused instead of 3 bonused turrets, but also one unique ability, thus making a new ship.

you can swap your miners for autocannons in the cargo bay without the Orca or station docking. also ehp and maybe fitting ability needs to be boosted so that it can survive initial attack and fight back.

It should be not great combat ship able to defend itself.

requirements might me exhumers and minnie BS.

Or another solution, new weapon essentially gun and miner in one, that can fit onto said ship only.

The problem is hi-sec is too safe.

You can buff low sec by adding one or two static mining sites in Lowsec constalations.

Nah, the problem is that it's too easy to have logistics out to null, and that refining is too good.
