Buggy Mining Crystal Damage updates?

I have my Modulated Strip Miner II lasers set to NOT auto repeat.

I check the damage to my Mining Crystal IIs before and after every cycle.

Today, I had a mining crystal at 0.42 damage before the start of a cycle. I started the cycle and the damage did not increase.

However, at the end of the cycle the damage increased to 0.45.

I thought only the start of a cycle was a damage event?

Why the increase of 3%?

--

Update I just had a crystal with 0.25 damage update to 0.28 damage - at the end of a cycle.

Is it possible that the auto-repeat feature is buggy so that it actually doesn't stop the laser at the end of a cycle but starts a new cycle before it stops? I swear it looks like the cycle restarts before it ends.

"All this has happened before, and all this will happen again."

So say we all.

IIRC, the damage event is at the end of the cycle. and it's random -- you may or may not receive a damage event.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

10% chance (for T1 mining crystals) and 20% chance (for T2 mining crystals) to get 0.025 damage (2.5%, or 1/40 of max) at the end of a cycle (that includes early deactivations, AFAIK).
Actual damage on crystal is displayed rounded with 2 decimals only, so sometimes you see it taking 2% and other times 3% damage at the end of a cycle.

Each could theoretically break in as little as 40 cycles (or the opposite, last for weeks or even months), but the chance of that happening is minuscule.
T1 crystals last on average around 400 cycles, T2 crystals on average around 200 cycles.

Confirming, as i did a bug report petition about this at one point after all these epically broken updates this summer/fall/winter

From how i understand it, the crystal info which reads as

"crystal takes dmg = true"

should really read,

"crystal has a chance at taking dmg = true"

But i think some mechanic of this has been changed over the summer/fall b/c my crystals have never been so far apart from each other as they have been the last couple/few months. They used to all wear about the same, and end up about 20% off from each other per set, but lately, i'll have 1 crystal at 90% while the other 2 are 50% and 40%. Makes switching them out a pain in the butt.

Consider crystals to have 40 HP, taking 1 HP of damage on each random event.

I recommend removing mining laser crystals at 98% or earlier and reprocessing them. With adequate skills and facitlities you can recover all the Nocxium in them.

Percent Damage = HP Remaining / Maximum HP
0.0% = 40 / 40
2.5% = 39 / 40
5.0% = 38 / 40
7.5% = 37 / 40
10.0% = 36 / 40
12.5% = 35 / 40
15.0% = 34 / 40
17.5% = 33 / 40
20.0% = 32 / 40
22.5% = 31 / 40
25.0% = 30 / 40
27.5% = 29 / 40
30.0% = 28 / 40
32.5% = 27 / 40
35.0% = 26 / 40
37.5% = 25 / 40
40.0% = 24 / 40
42.5% = 23 / 40
45.0% = 22 / 40
47.5% = 21 / 40
50.0% = 20 / 40
52.5% = 19 / 40
55.0% = 18 / 40
57.5% = 17 / 40
60.0% = 16 / 40
62.5% = 15 / 40
65.0% = 14 / 40
67.5% = 13 / 40
70.0% = 12 / 40
72.5% = 11 / 40
75.0% = 10 / 40
77.5% = 9 / 40
80.0% = 8 / 40
82.5% = 7 / 40
85.0% = 6 / 40
87.5% = 5 / 40
90.0% = 4 / 40
92.5% = 3 / 40
95.0% = 2 / 40
97.5% = 1 / 40 [Last chance to remove crystal (98% displayed damage)]
