It's actually a rather common bug. It first happened to me 1 year ago, perhaps 2-3 times a week while I was running incursions, and every now and then I would hear others in fleet worry about the same.

It seems to be simply an explosion animation gone too big; if you move the camera so that the 'culprit' wreck is out of sight it will disappear. It will stop happening if you disable 'ship explosions' in your Esc menu.

This has happened several time to me as well over the last 6 months. Second time it happened I submitted a (Very detailed) bug report on the issue. that was about 1-2 months ago.

Playing on a fairly decent desktop that can run 3 clients at a time without issue, so I doubt its the 'playing on a crappy 2006 laptop' type issue.

This happens to me every now and then, but I just move the camera, scroll away and it usually fixes on it's own.

One thing that doesn't fix on it's own though is regional gates crashing my video drivers, and sometimes the PC. I submitted a bug report some time ago, but didn't get a solution.

The fix I found for myself is Shaders to low (medium and high still crashes). My graphic card is old - 9800 GTX+, but it has no problem running the game all on max, until the moment I fly to a regional gate. Regular gates do not cause this, so it must be some special effect on the regional gates that crashes my game. Oh, and yes, I do have the latest video drivers. This problem occurred 2-3 expansions back, before that I've never had such an issue.

There's another fix - get nVidia 5+ series. If I could, I would have done so already. Guess Imma have to travel with an ugly ship :)

Change your graphics settings. Shaders to high and it will never happen again!

This is a known issue that we have been tracking for a while, we have an open defect, and a graphics engineer looking at it. However, intermittent issues like this can be extremely difficult to find and fix. Also, many types of problems can cause that kind of graphic artifact, so finding and fixing one problem may not correct all instances of it.

Please continue to submit bug reports from the in-game bug reporting tool on the F12 menu if you experience it, as more data may make it easier to pin down. Additional information such as what type of site you were in might be helpful as part of your reproduction steps.

Ive been thinking about this issue, and have a suggestion. Right now we can submit a screen shot of a bug while we are preparing a bug report. But for intermittent bugs like this, most likely we will not have the bug reporting tool open at the time the bug occurs.
What we need is: A hot key that we can hit at any time, that takes a bug-report-ready screenshot. In addition, that same hot key could also collect key data from the client that could help you diagnose this issue, or any other issue.

The user procedure would be

See bug.
Hit the "gather debug data" hot key.
Get your ship safe.
Make a bug report, attaching the debug data file.

It happens every once in awhile for me as well. Just imagine a space flash bomb went off and it's testing your pilot skills. "The goggles, they do nothing!"...

Have you submitted a bug report, while it's happening?

That way, CCP can get some details about it. (some logs are copied, when you do the submit within the game)

After all, it's obviously (First report I've seen) not a common problem, so it's likely something semi specific to your computer.

I think I saw this once. It went away on session change.

Happens to me pretty often. I'm using a Radeon 5870. Sometimes it's a full screen white-out, sometimes only half a screen. Sometimes zooming in real close to my ship and twirling the camera around makes it go away.

Same here. Bugged me for months. Then I upgraded my card and the problem just disappeared. Weird.

i've experienced this particular bug a few times, but honestly, it hasn't really bothered me. either i switch off tactical overview, then back on, or dock up, and it resolves itself. i can see where this could be annoying, but it's in no way game-breaking.

Idk if this has been said already, cba to read the entire thread...but try setting the client to run Eve in dx 9 mode instead of 11. This has cleared some graphical issues in the past.

(click the gear in the upper right corner of launcher, game tab, set dx9..give it a try) Smile

I have never seen firework explosions, every time I change the settings so I can see them I get white, yellow or blue screen. I haven't bothered to have a look recently but in the past I have been able to recreate the bug on demand.

So like I say, I can spam the crap out of the bug report system but I'm not sure if it is worth my time.

I just checked, and it doesn't appear that you've previously reported this bug (at least on this character.) If you can reproduce it, one bug report would likely be quite valuable, if you can spare the time. :)

So fireworks are where the yellow/white screen are coming from? I will file a bug report as soon as it happens again.

This has been happening since the creation of the fireworks...if CCP still needs reports to find the cause then someone needs to get fired and replaced with a more competent worker, imho.

But yeah, turning missiles off is the best way to deal with it, although it is a rather sucky 'fix'.

Thanks CCP Darwin for this info, hopefully the graphics engineer can find and fix this bug
