Carrier idea...possibly fix

Ok so was thinking why not make carriers moduler? Carriers are made up of a specific number of each capital component as set by the blueprint/CCP. Well why not say each carrier needs 100(round number for discussions sake) components total to be built, but the builder can decide what type of carrier he wants to make. Let's use the archon, you want a very heavey tank so you sacrifice some capital drone bays for capital armour plates and cap battery's. Or you want a heavy RR carrier so you sacrifice some plates and drone bays for the extra cap battery's to run the remote reps. After the success of the T3's and there dynamic design why not expand it to other ship classes..

The 4 carriers are honestly a bit unbalanced as it is. The thanny is the ultimate pve boat, archon and niddy are great fleet/triage ship but the chimera needs some love, doing something this would make it so no carrier was really better than any other one just how they were built would matter. The major issues with implanting this would just be the coding for CCP and what to do with existing carriers in game. But just think how this would add a new element to fleet combat not knowing if the carriers on the field were logistics or combat carriers.

P.S. Yes I am high and no you can't have any.
Note to flamers...I would rather the idea be attacked then my character age, this is an alt, and yes I pilot carriers, currently the thanny and archon. I think this or maybe a version of this idea would be a viable options to balance out the carriers and make fleet combat involving capitals a bit more interesting. Please feel free to add or poke holes in the idea I like constructive posts.

Well, modular would be ok, but not depending on the constructing. On this way you would never know what the enemy are fielding (what's not that bad at all), and this make Balancing nearly Impossible. Make some new Carrier depending on the T3-Cruiser modular System.

But at all, i would prefer T3 Frigs/BS before T3 Capitals.

Anyway, on the second thought: If you do this to Carrier you have to do it to the other (Super-)Capitals also and at least to the Sub-Cap also. And then you have to save the Stats for every Ship on it's own. Damn, i cannot even imagine how many Disk-Space this would take for the Capitals alone.

Idea: Good
Possibility: ....

No T2 dreads till DUST
No DUST till ..........
.................. till T3 BS's
No T3 BS's till T3 Frigs
No T3 frigs till T1 cruiser fix
No......
PROFIT!!!!!!

What exactly is it you want to "fix"? The Chim?

The Chimera could use a teensy tweak, sorting the gang EHP bonus would probably be enough, yet you propose that they all be made into cookie-cutters (aka. boosted) .. because you know that is what will happen just as it did with T3, only ever see 1-2 configs out of XX possible.

Carriers are made 'meh' by the existence of supers and jump-mechanics more than anything else. CCP still hasn't proven that they have any idea what to do with capitals, they keep tweaking them to no avail ..

The Archon/Nid are considered the "best of class" because, guess what: THEY HAVE A DEFINED ROLE (plus everyone buffers armour Smile). There is your carrier fix, make them tactical fleet support platforms .. supers can then be made into strategic fleet support platforms as was originally intended back when "there will only be a handful of Titan's built because they are so HUGE!"

In short: Identify the issue before you start tightening bolts willy-nilly .. repairs go a lot smoother that way.

What i mean to say is that when you see a carrier show up you know basically know what to expect. triage supporting supers or dreads. With the T3 cruisers you never know what your gonna get, the Legion is either an unbelievable tank or strait gank with HAMS. I think that could be implemented in other areas. The carriers are something that needs a bit of balance. the chimera is fairly under powered compared to the other 3. Like Hirana said both the nid and archon have defined roles and they're good at it. why not do that for all the carriers, define there role by how there built. Honestly doing a T3 platform for carriers would be absolutely over the top and so ungodly expensive that they would rival Supers in price.

Using the system for building them already make a bit more sense in the fact that there already composed of a magnitude of capital parts and changing what actually goes into each one might be a more feasible option. Coding wise it may be a major pain the rump. but experience wise i think players would really enjoy

I like this idea as it provides a wide but limited flexibility for both the Super and 'normal' Carriers that can be used to create ships for specific uses without going for the FULL T3 flexibility.

The best way I can see for this to be implemented I think would be for most of the components to remain in there current numbers but provide flexibility in the following formula.

For 'normal' Carriers lets say.

Minimum of 5 units of each
Maximum of 40 units of each

Capital Armour Plates: 0.5% per unit bonus to Armour Resistances per level

Capital Capacitor Batteries: 1.5% per unit bonus to Shield and Armour transfer amount per level

Capital Power Generators: 1.5% per unit bonus to Power transfer and Energy Vampire/Destabilizer amount per level

Capital Drone Bay: 0.5% per unit bonus to Drone Damage per level

Total number of units adding up to 100

You would also need to make each variable have a physical effect on the ship as well. By this I mean, more Drone Bay components allow you to carry more drones, more Armour Plate gets you more HP, more Capacitor Batteries make your Capacitor larger and more Power Generators get you more PG and a faster Cap recharge.

I think this sort of thing would not be too difficult to code as the ship models could remain fixed with the flexibility being 'internal structure' so to speak. The downside of this from the players point of view is that when you have decided on YOUR recipe for the ship you want and you push the GO button to build it THATS the ship you will get and if you decide you want a different set of bonuses, well in that situation you are just gonna have to build a new ship.

Any hooo thats my 0.02-ISK worth.

The idea is pretty far reaching but overall I really like it. It'd likely be a ***** to balance if for no other reason than the number of combinations that could be used... even if most of them would be useless. Unfortunately, judging from the way Eve data dumps I don't think that Eve's internal architecture would be capable of handling this very well. Probably not worth the effort ... but still a cool idea.

Also: Boost the Chimera's CPU. I need a reason to train my Caldari alt for Caldari carriers instead of Archons. -_-

NO! come on think about it, how many carriers exist now! Players would lose moneys on suddenly "not good" carriers that were grandfathered in.

Besides all ships in eve are modular, what you should be talking about is expanding the number and type of capital ship modules.

You train the caldari carrier up so that someday you can fly the revenant Lol

... what... you didn't want an overly expensive faction supercarrier? oh well... I guess caldari carrier really is useless...

Chimera needs CPU yes?
It will become viable once you can reasonably cookie cutter fit it.

I suppose this is true... but I'd really hate to give up that particular character to a supercap. I guess it'd surprise the **** out of those guys that keep dropping that triage thanny in Amamake belt 1 though.... but really there's better ways to skin that goose.
