A few questions about Temperate Planets...

I speak for all Capsuleers when I say 'If I find a planet full of the resources I need, I shoot a colony-rocket at it'! A large fraction of the worlds we drop our colonies on seem to be green, the right temperature (~290K) and have some blue-looking atmosphere. The Neocom calls these worlds, appropriately 'Temperate'. This leads me to my first question;

How much life lives on these worlds? Is it just plant-life - or microbes? Is there a thriving macrobiotic ecosphere?

It's pretty hard to see the surface of said planets, as we all probably know. Even leaning out the side of your Algos with a 100,000 ISK pair of binoculars and you can't see squat! I ain't gonna take any risks on landing my capsule there - I don't think there's a parachute module, right? When I check the stats of temperate worlds, their gravity tends to be 4.0m/s-2 to 12.0m/s-2, reasonable. But the atmospheric pressure tends to be (for most of these worlds) 'Very Low'; leading me to my second question:

How low is 'Very Low? Does this mean people couldn't survive on the surface of these worlds, because of their trace atmospheres?

I'm not gonna try and take a deep breath on those worlds, that's for sure. Unless anyone wants to by me a shiny spacesuit? No? Okay... When you pop through the wormholes in Algogille and end up in the middle of nowhere, there's usually a welcoming, blue-green world waiting there for you. I've read in The Daily Capsuleer and all other forms of digital newspaper that the 'Ancestors' of man terraformed these worlds. No big deal, really. But,

How many people live on these worlds? Are we talking cities, metropolises, mud-huts or zilch?

We all know of Gallente Prime's towering archologies and sky-scrapers - we know that Temperate Planet is inhabited by Billions. Where does the colonization stop? Are there only cities in 0.8 to 1.0 Sec space? In low-sec, are there slums and gang ruled territories on said worlds? Maybe I should ask a Dust 514 soldier about this...

I look forward to your replies, thanks!

I think almost all celestial objects have their stats generated randomly, only faction home planets are adjusted manually (altough Im not 100% sure of that either), so don't look too much into those. I recall a recurring joke being that stargates are or used to be more dense than most black holes for example, looking at their stats.

There is some indigenous life on the planets, some are almost certainly planted and modified by the original human colonists. The Hanging Long-Limbs and Fedos are almost certainly New Eden native species, slaver hounds, luminaire skippers and many others are almost certainly brought here by humans.

The whole cluster has some 70 trillion inhabitants or thereabouts I think accodring to EVE Source, so most temperate planets likely have population around or over 10-ish billion, less habitable planets probably in the lower billions and even space stations probably have populations of several millions, if not tens of millions.

Unfortunately, not only are the info stats randomly generated barring a handful of planets in the game, the planet 'skin' is not assigned based on lore either. This means that the night-time view of the planet - where we can often see the lights of settlements on the surface - are not lore-based either; in at least a couple cases there are actually city lights where lore says there should not be any.

In short, do not rely on any ingame info about planets barring the homeworlds (and even their information is... suspect, to say the least, considering the values involved).

Here is what we do know from lore:
- Lowsec is fairly heavily developed, with numerous planets that have individual or multiple major settlements on them. Most do not have the megacities and billions (if not tens of billions) populations that highsec planets do, but they are there. Remember that security status does not imply the faction navies are absent in these areas; rather, it just implies they don't bother with capsuleer activity.
- Faction Warfare space is allegedly settled in the same way, but the constant flip-flopping of the warzone makes it questionable how many are truly living there anymore.
- Null security space is for the most part sparsely settled, with a handful of colonies here and there. These colonies probably survive for the most part by being small, unnoticeable, and more trouble to attack than they're worth.
- Some nullsec regions are explicitly described as more heavily settled: Stain has a long-developing population of Sansha's Nation True Slaves, with some planet development rivaling that of highsec, while Feythabolis used to have a small independent nation until the Angel Cartel rolled in and ate them up.

This changes my perspective a lot! I didn't make the connection that the Low-Sec rating was solely for Capsuleer purposes. It makes sense as to why many of the temperate worlds have city lights.

Thanks for the replies, guys! :)
