I support OP's message.

CCP introduced the new map in a "beta" state since it obviously was not finished. And you let us keep using the old one, thank god for that.

I would argue the new icons are also far from finished and needs a lot of fixing. It needs to be made a optional like the new map is or removed altogether.

I would appreciate being able to choose between the old and new icon sets.

The newer ones add unnecessary amounts of detail that obfuscate and dilute information in larger fleet fights, opposite of their intended purpose.

For example, I don't need to know what type of drones the enemy has out, I just need to know where they are on grid. The older system handled this perfectly.

Another issue that i've noticed is that I never used brackets to identify ship types, only ship class (small box == frigate, bigger box == cruiser). The simplicity of bigger boxes denoting larger ships is something I appreciated since I could look over to my overview and quickly discern what doctrine an enemy fleet was using. Admittedly I can still do this now with the newer system of triangles, however, I find that when zoomed out (which is typical in n+1 fights) the extra information provided is actually detrimental to being able to figure out what they are flying, and where they actually are. I actually found myself having difficulty locating fleets in the other days rather large fight over some CFC timer in Querious.

Hopefully CCP will allow users some leeway with the newer icon system and recognize that while there are noticeable benefits people, like myself, may still prefer to use the older system or even have their own, custom system. Surely this is important enough to consider discussing on some official level.

I couldn't give a flip either way. You look at your overview and target from that. The icons are neat, give some quick information if you're willing to spend 8 seconds looking at the ISIS ship browser to see what is what.

Also, this has been in the works for like 6 months. They released a dev blog about it and said these are the ideas we want to go with. Im thinking there were maybe a dozen pages of replies, both good and bad. Im also remembering that they put this on the test server at least a little bit ago and asked for feedback. WHERE WERE ALL OF YOU WHINERS then? Where are links to your test server feedback posts? Why are you acting like this is the first time you knew these changes were coming!?

If you read dev blogs, you know these changes are coming, if you read the forums at all, you know what changes are coming to Sisi for testing and that they want feedback. So get on the test server, give feedback there and stop the whine fest here!

In 2 weeks, nobody will care/notice what the UI looks like, and I can bet there are alot of vet players (me included) that are happy to look at something other than white boxes and red crosses.

All of you should have said something when CPP was asking for feeback. Get used to it, it's better now.

I support this.

Not everyone has the time to be testing new stuff in Sisi, I got a life and can barely play EVE. I'm not going to waste my time testing stuff when CCP is going to ignore my suggestions anyway.

Getting the option to change the overview icons, one of the most used elements in EVE's UI, should have actually been implemented long ago. Who knows how that might have affected encounters between ppl like B-R if we were able to change it to a more confortable sight? To a more organized one? There are plenty of symbols out there to use in here.

Also, the new ones look a bit retro at times (sentries, gates, cans). It almost looks as if someone had a a bit much fun while playing around with MS Paint's polygon tool... One gets used to simple symbology quick, its easy to learn. Now we need to learn about new complex ones for no reason at all?

The more I play with these icons, the less I like them, too much unnessecary complexity.
Is this stuff made by the same people that just a few months ago simplified the sidebar so much that I cant quickly tell the icons apart anymore?

CCP: why did one part of the UI need to become a LOT simpler(and hard to see at a glance), and the other parts a lot more complex(and hard to see at a glance)?

Is uniformity bad?

And what precisely prompted all those UI changes?
A new UI wasn't even ON my "stuff wanted in eve" list.

The new map shows us how this COULD be:
I'm not a fan of the new map, so I can disable it.
Those other changes mess me up a LOT more,
why were THEY not put in a "try the new UI" option, like the map?

and last but not least:
It was NOT broken, so why are you "fixing" it?

I don't recall anyone ever asking for a UI overhaul but CCP seem to think its necessary to do it every year. I guess its their way of tricking you into thinking they're actually improving the game when in reality they're doing nothing or making it worse.

I have started to strongly suspect that all of CCP's actual developers are working on eve-valkyrie, leaving a skeleton team working on making eve-online look like it's getting some updates.

Or perhaps they did hire new people for that, and it's just the new 6 week patch system giving me extreme patch fatigue, and all I care about now is that the next patch dosn't mess stuff up.

And even getting dissapointed at that, because at the top of my wanted list now is an undo button for all of this damn "improved" UI

The new icons gave me cancer :( Please allow us to choose the old ones.

I'll crudely Photoshop an image of Helen Thomas onto a picture of your choosing for 30m. PM me.

Some people gave them feed back.

I think new icons are a cool idea, but it would be nice to choose icons from the newly released icons, the old icons, and even possibly more icons that could be released.
