Add Icon Preferences/customization

Normally im all for extra options for customization, however i believe overview icons should be uniform across all players UI.

- Older players explain icons to new players. This becomes more difficult with UI customization.
- Less space on the client.
- Not much point in the effort when haters will get used to the new icons.

The new icons are clearly better. I read about people having trouble differentiating between frigates and dessies or cruisers and BC's...and what was it like before? oh yeah, they were identical! If its so hard, you can still use the name of the rat or ship type like you used to. For those having trouble telling the difference between size classes, i honestly dont know how you did it before, when i, without visual impairment, couldnt always tell the difference between large and medium brackets at a quick glance.

I do however miss one icon, and thats the hollow empty wreck. That was clearer to me than a diamond on top or not.

- the ISIS window can teach newer players what the new icons are for ship class.
- new icons would not take up loads of space on the client, because your talking about a couple dozen small thumbnail images that are just a few pixels big.
- yes we can all get used to the new icons, but why do older players have to be forced into a relearning process?

customization is a good thing, and old players can still teach the new players how to set up their overviews and even share presets with, overview sharing, to teach them. Having a UI that can be more customizable to the individual is better for everyone. New players are going to have a steep learning curve coming into the game, but CCP is addressing new player retention on other fronts. i would argue that what the icons look like have no bearing on how new players learn the game whatsoever. New players just starting eve have no idea what icons even are and may not know what ship types and class are. Having access to better tutelage and easy access to info about the game mechanics is what really matters for newer players.

Despite the fact that I support this I'm going to Xpost from a similar thread:

CCP will never allow the use of old icons, because like everything they implement regarding the UI, letting us use the old version is like admitting that their new version isn't better, and there's no chance they'd do that.

To this day I hate the bracket system they implemented last year.

I Agree!

I was pulled here from https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=5796418# buy the poster of this Topic. Similar Ideas they should be considered together as one, instead of separate!

You have my Support if you add in the NEX store purchases and somewhat incorporate my other ideas, if you see them, such as a bunch of sass!

Fully agree with topicstarter.
Just add a one small button "Use old-school icons" that would be perfect for us.

I've been against every single change CCP has made to the UI over the last couple years. The neocom icons, the color changes, the crappy little corner markers that no longer let me put windows next to each other semi-seamlessly, etc... all of it. I'm even against the new overview icons.

But you know what? I've dealt with it. I've learned to deal with a UI that I think is getting progressively worse. I will continue to deal with this UI because I love the game.

When you look back at CCP's track record of undoing changes they've made, you really have two options:

1. Stop b****ing and deal with it.
2. Unsub.

Please, stop s***ting up F&I with all these threads about how bad you think the icons are. They were announced months ago, and you've had more then enough time to put your voice in before release. It's here now, so you can either shut up or ship out.

Your call.

i can provide an example of a change that ccp went back on...

remember the vagabond back when inferno was released? CCP took the fins away, then everybody complained about it, and eventually CCP gave the vaga its fins back. :P

this thread also isnt a gripe thread on the new icons. if you would have read the original post in its entirety, i stated i thought the new icons and UI changes were a "novel idea". This thread just a proposed idea to give players more choices over their UI.

I don't understand the hate from the people who like the new icons against the people who don't.

We aren't asking CCP to take away the icons you like, we would just like the option to use the old ones. It should be fairly simple to accomplish so there really isn't any good reason that it can't happen.

Because thats a lot simpler than CCP having to implement a bunch of customizable icons. You talk about it as if its five minutes work, where as you can just get used to the new icons and everyone can have a unified UI...

I have a complaint about whoever is in charge of giving the OK to the development teams on their ideas. I feel like this individual has no concept of quality control and simply allows any idea through because they don't want to hurt the feelings of the employee who worked on it. For example, most of the UI updates in recent history have been obvious downgrades with a lot of people complaining they wanted the old one back, or at least an option to revert to an older version of the UI. Would a customizable UI really be so hard to achieve? The most recent tragedy that was allowed to go live was the new icon pack, I want to use the old icon pack; I am accustomed and familiar with it, it makes sense.... this new pack is almost spastic in its arrangement and has no logical pattern, it makes the game harder to play. People will argue that this is only a small fraction of the population complaining about these UI/Cosmetic changes with no option to revert to previous versions, however, anyone with half a brain knows CCP have NEVER cared about the player bases opinion on these patches and a majority of people who might complain simply don't because they know its 100% a waste of time. In the 10+ years i've logged into EvE i've only seen a select few instances where CCP actually reverted a change made in a patch because its what the players wanted, this is a serious problem.

tl;dr

Give players the option to use new icons or old icons, is this really so hard? And continue to give players options regarding COSMETIC patches that have no effect on anything and the use of which should be dependant on the players preference, not the preference of the development team.

To be honest not allowing us not to choose what icons we can use for our overview seems dumb.

A lot of them are barely different, the drone icons are as big as ship icons.

This is just a disaster tbh
