Will EVE be bottlenecked by my CPU?

I've got a trusty workhorse desktop that I've not upgraded in many years, the old Bloomfield i7 is running at 3Ghz (as overclocked as I am comfortable with) and even the ancient GTX260 graphics card seems to have enough oomph for most of my games, but EVE on really low settings is beginning to drag on me.

I seem to have enough juice on my PSU to upgrade my graphics card, but I don't want to shell out for a 960 or 970 if my old cpu is going to limit the gains to EVE performance. I know, for example, that Civ is super CPU intensive and the graphics upgrade wouldn't help much at all there.

Essentially, is anyone else satisfied with a first gen intel i-series and a newer gpu with EVE? How's the performance? If it doesn't make a big difference, I'll probably just hang on for holiday sales this fall and do a new build from the mobo up.

You will be fine, I would however go for a 750 Ti if you don't want to shell out a unnecessary amount of cash.

I'd certainly like to save, but will the 750Ti get me out of the mediocre settings level (I only have one client/account, but still)? Thanks for the tip!

I can't say for certain but I would think so because the card is more capable than a 260GTX.

Seems to be about twice as much horsepower under the hood, yeah. That said, I don't know how that translates into frames and such. I'd just hate to drop money on anything that would only take me from low to medium since there isn't a lot of difference between the two.

Arguing back and forth how many frames exactly you will get is a bit moot (imo) because you are still going to get out more frames out of a 750 Ti compared to your GTX 260. But if you want the bells and whistles too, I'd suggest that you save up for the holiday sales.

Don't buy a 750Ti, it's a complete waste of money. Wait a while and save up for at least a 960 if you can't afford a 970. Don't buy any AMD cards, no offense.

And also don't settle for anything less than a 4th generation i5 for gaming. Even the lowest grade i5 is suitable, so long as it's 4th gen.

I don't think a 750 Ti is a waste of money for the amount of performance you get out of them but in my opinion, OP should wait for skylake and just build something then.
