I understand that there were some issues the other night pre patch, but post patch it's still giving me grief.

Whats the official stance on this issue ?? am i to file a support ticket ?

No offense, but your launcher sucks and i really have no interest in using it

It patches your client.

What's not wanted here?

It's hardly a memory hog

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

What's not wanted is the fact that it's a piece of crap that unnecessarily increases the time it takes to log in, especially for those with multiple accounts, and it's flat-out broken for many people. There is no reason for any game to ever have a launcher, it's a frivolous and time-wasting layer, nevermind the fact that it contributes to the culture of coddling. Manually downloading and applying a patch is NOT difficult for a person with at least one functional brain cell.

The launcher hasn't worked properly for me for weeks. Literally every time I run it I have to use the workaround in order to be able to log in and play.

The only reason I don't always use the .exe (apart from patches) is because you can't access the store if you didn't run the game using the launcher.

"culture of coddling" - how...clever. One might get the impression there is such a thing! Cool

There just isn't anything that can be said!

Is it just me? Or is it kind of amazing how all the people who hate the launcher and can't get it to work are also the people who are so l33t with their computers that they were morse coding IP packets with an ethernet cable plugged into a rock on ARPAnet in 70s.

If you are really all that savvy and efficient with the ways you use your computers, why can't you figure out what the vast majority of lesser beings who play EvE have already done: make the launcher work and shut the f*** up about how the launcher needs to get off your lawn.

Here's a pro tip for troubleshooting issues with your computer: if something works for everyone but you, the place to look for the problem is you.

While fundamentally I agree with you, the launcher does have some quirks that CCP needs to take a look at - especially the one where it occasionally doesn't run the client check, so you can't actually get into the game.

I do notice some correlation between the people who despise the launcher and the people who always have to run the repair tool before a patch. While I admit the launcher is slower getting me into the game, it's not so much slower that I care enough to complain about it.

Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you. Also, iderno

Fair enough. There are occasional issues here and there. But they tend to get resolved pretty quickly. My guess is that the people who constantly whinge about it are some of the same people who want CCP to run a PC repair hotline and probably have ungodly amounts of malware and crapware and stuff on their computers. I'd bet a lot of these people have 20 toolbars on their web browser and "no idea! (I swear!!)" how they got there.

They are mostly the same people who think that CCP devs are stupid and can't read or write code because they haven't implemented pointless feature xxx yet.

Then don't play EVE. EVE has a launcher, that's just the way it is and quite honestly it's no big deal. Get used to the idea of using it or GTFO.

I think people face more problems because they try to bypass the launcher instead of using it, but that's just my opinion.

Going strong, no probelms with the launcher ever....sometimes the progress bar doesn't move, but i see my hard drive light blinking so i know its doing its job.

And i agree, HTFU or GTFO - I wouldn't be suprised if they phase out the exefile.exe in the next few patches.

Thanks for beating me to the punch with your reply. I cut my teeth with a Timex Sinclair 1000 and played around with the C64 back in the 80's. If people want to own and use a computer then they should know how to make it work right.

In regards to the launcher I love how the cache folder can be put on another drive.

only time I use the exefile.exe is when everyone is reporting issues with the launcher created by a port issue on the server side.
