Kitey cruisers with some form of ewar would seem to be the rule here then. Not many brawl fits able to catch things on a grid not limited by the necessity of holding point.

I always thought drones would automatically attack an aggressor even if the ship that launched them is unable to target...was he just outside your drone control range? Because then a DLA would have won that fight.

All the same I look forward to seeing some more interesting fits.

Drone aggression mechanics are unreliable at best, and downright atrocious at worst. Don't count on those bastards ever doing what you want them to.

I've seen them attack hostiles of their own accord without me asking, and I've seen them casually orbit me while hostiles slowly eat away at my structure. I don't pretend to understand when they will and will not attack whoever is attacking me.

And that was exactly what I was counting on in that fight.

It's a pretty safe bet that a persons drones will betray them unless they can force them to attack by targeting and giving the order.

Yes a DLA, mwd and/or a sebo would have won me that fight. I was originally agressed at 62km. This is 2 km outside of my drone control range. However my fit was outclassed and it cost me. I was set to take on anything on badmans killboard. That is anything except a beam nomen with a Bob damed sensor damp. My TD was meant to counter any range fits. He tried to speed up the match which is why I was even able to break out the drones. See how meta breaking this is Big smile

This thread is fascinating. It's as if a small group of disgruntled bastards are trying to get back to the core of what makes EvE great.

I approve.

Buy-in for this one was 1 PLEX as it was conceived of as a charity event. Buy-in for subsequent events to be determined.

I would like to propose that for future editions, we consider using battlecruiser or battleship hulls. I think cruiser hulls are a good balance of capability, flexibility, and affordability, but one thing that they lack that could make Thunderdome really interesting is MJDs.

Being able to hop around grid 100k at a time in any direction would certainly mix things up. Might give some people a reason to fit a scram.

What an incredibly well timed suggestion, I'm in for the next round. (this may or may not be misdirection) Twisted

On a side note, if you do something dumb, don't threaten revenge and then do something even dumber and dumberer.

Or a reason to fit long range weapons. A dual-prop (MJD/MWD) cruise 'Phoon would make for some interesting tactics.

I think a plex is too pricey, lower the cost and maybe more will participate

As I said, that was a one-time deal as a charity event. I highly doubt subsequent events would be so costly.

I wouldn't be surprised if future events were more like 100 mill with the first and second place prizes being paid out from the entry fees. I'd gladly handle the brackets with no need for compensation.

I'd like to point out that BC's can fit mjd's as well now. So we could explore the meta of the MJD without having to force the expense of a battleship. (I flew Ashimmu so I'm obviously not opposed to flying BS's, but the point stands.)

Oh I know. I called out the 'Phoon because of the range of cruise missiles makes it a great fit. An MJD sniper Ferox (not to mention an MJD sniper Rokh) could be interesting as well.

Re: cost, T1 BS hulls are on-par with T2/faction cruisers only they're fully insurable so the cost of losing could actually be lower.

I enjoy the low cost of cruisers with the ability they provide.

However, being a man of compromise, I'd be willing to upship if that's what the majority wants.

Maybe next time we will do a double elimination bracket, allowing for both.
