Question about character creation / change of appearance

I'm not really a new character, but I figured this is probably the most appropriate place to put this question. When I last played EVE, I was still able to put off recreating my character avatar, something I had been doing because I was never really happy with what I came up with the first time, and I wanted to give myself lots of time to perfect what my new avatars would look like. Anyway, I'm returning to the game after several months and have found that I cannot enter the game unless I "put on a new face." Unfortunately, I'm still being plagued by the same indecision that kept me from redesigning my character in the past. This brings me to the question, I've ready that you can change your appearance using "customization mirrors," but I've been having a little trouble finding out which features you can change using this method. Is it just cosmetic details like clothing? Or does it go deeper than that?

Thanks for any help

Recustomization allows you to change the physical characteristics of your character, ie. bone structure, complexion etc. This is different from changing clothes or screenshot. I believe you now get one chance to get the recusomization right however when the new character creator was first introduced, players were given several retries to get used to it. It's possible you may have extra 'recustomization' chances banked but I can't say for certain.

Ok, so assuming I don't have anything extra saved up due to my previous heel-dragging, I've got the initial character creation process which I'm having to go through now before I go into the game for the first time (new first time I guess), and then one more shot if things don't look so good once in game? Also, since you made a distinction between physical appearance and cosmetic changes, can I assume that there are also provisions for changing clothing, piercings, hairstyle, etc beyond the initial creation and recustomization? Or are these also subject to a "get it right by the second try or you're stuck with it" policy?

Thanks again

Avatar redoes not involving changing facial structure, body type etc. are available at any time in the station services menu. Tattoos, piercing you can change all you like.

Just to clarfiy because it seems a bit unclear from previous posts, NEW characters WILL NOT* get a chance to change bone structure after the initial character creation process. You can only ever change aesthetics such as hair and makeup, clothes, portrait pose etc, not your body or face shape.

If existing characters that never switched over to the new avatars do get to resculpt, post back when you find that out and I'll have learned something new today, but for anyone else reading this and being a bit confuzzled you better get your new character right first time :)

* I heard a rumour you can petition to be allowed one resculpt but can't confirm that.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, there is apparently *NO* second recustomization available anymore. After getting into the game, I tried to go back to the mirror to fix some issues and I am not able to fix any bone structure at all, even though I have an old character and have only done the first customization. I really don't like the end result and only accepted it because I wanted to get into the game rather than spend hours working on a face. Is there something I'm missing here? Do I need to access recustomization in a specific way to get to my redo? Please help...

Thanks

You're stuck as you are. I have a character that actually had a recustomization available and eventually, the recustomization option mysteriously disappeared (perhaps it was time-limited?) so I feel your pain.

On advice from some people in the help channel, I submitted a petition requesting a redo based on the the fact that I wouldn't have accepted the current appearance if I had known I would not get another shot at doing it right. We'll see if they permit me to do it again. I probably wouldn't have such an issue with it had I not just accepted a random appearance with a few modifications to get myself into the game ASAP.

I've petitioned before on an alt. Re-customization was enabled for all characters on the account, and I was told it was a one-time thing. I don't know if the policy has changed since.

Yeah, the recustomization thing was mainly because things were so fouled up when the new character shapes came out. For some of us with multiple accounts ... we had to just sit down and grind out a lot of characters and the results weren't always what they might have been if we'd not had so many to do all at once. So ... after a lot of bitching and moaning on the part of the players - they gave everyone a recustomization but I do believe that those have all expired - or - were forced on you. I can remember logging into a character I hadn't used in a while - been thrown right into the character creator - and when I escaped out of it because I didn't have the time just then to fiddle with the characters appearance - I lost the chance to do it. Now they're pretty much gone - which is a pain in the ass. Now that we have the full character veiw - I've noted a few things I might like to change but ... *shrug* ... so it goes.

The thing with most MMO's ... is that you have a starter character that you completely foul up in every way ... then ... after you've played the game a while ... you take one of those alts ... and make a new one based on what you know then. That's pretty much how it works and there's not to much you can do about it. There are just to many things you don't know starting a new game to get it right the first time. So ... there are a lot of people ... if not most ... who have their starter characters tucked away somewhere unused yet undeleted out of nostalgia for those first wonder filled days when the game was all bright and shiney and new ...
