Jobbing for Machariel, what to learn the ropes on?

I'm growing bored with my trusty Tengu (just dont tell it), and I want to change to a Mach.

Having never really PVEd with gun ships, I'd like some fits to learn the ropes on. T1 minmatar hulls, please, also T1 guns as of yet. Everything else can be T2. I read some "baby Mach" fits waay back, but they were for Vaugrs, not my type of thing.

Thanks, fora!

If you can fly CSs, a Sleipnir handles somewhat similarly to a Machariel, though medium guns are a major limitation. A Maelstrom (AC fit) is the closest T1 analog battleship. Basically cram on 800s, gyros, and TEs on there. Top off the mids with an AB, XL booster, and a few hardeners.

Honestly though? Just hop in a Mach. It's fairly forgiving and easy to overtank. And it doesn't require T2 guns to work.

The Machariel is usually found fitted with a huge number of Gyros and Tracking enhancers when you search for fits, but below is what I was running with, it is over-tanked for sure, but I liked the warm fuzzy of getting shot at while running down enemy ships (you still have to be careful, but it is a very forgiving when you make mistakes) I just flew it around like a giant frigate, closing up to point blank range and melting BS RATS:

EHP 57208 (this is on my skills which are not perfect 5s)

Cap stable at 43% with everything running (again, not perfect skills) which means you can worry about other things. if you turn off the AB or the XL shield booster evey now and then you can still be cap stable and eith lose the Cap recharger II in the mid and replace it with a web for Frigates/Spider drones that get too close or you can remove a cap relay from the lows and add another tracking enhancer or gyro (depending on skills)

I usually swap out one or both Invuls for rat specific hardeners (which are less resource intensive)

The drone link is to help run down longer range targets in level fours, especially when you start running down ships at over 525m/s you can sometimes out distance your drones working on other items.

Add drone typesof your liking, salt to taste.

I build this up with meta stuff initially as my skills were not good enough for some to the tech2 goodies so things like the X-Large C5-L Emergency Shield overload instead of the X-Large Shield Booster II and Beta Reactor Control in place of the Capacitor Power Relay II were done at some point.

TLDR- Here is a training Machariel while you get comfy with your new toy. It flies like a giant frigate and the drones can help bail you out if you screw it up.

To the OP. The best ship to train for the Mach in would be the Maelstrom. Slow as a brick but very similar in layout to the Mach.
If you get the hang of a Mael you will be ready to jump into a Mach.

Unless you do sansha/Bloods you'll want to shield tank it, thing is that you have so much dps and tracking that you kill stuff before they become a problem so you don't need to tank a lot. Choosing AB or MWD depends on taste but the lows should be full of gyros and TEs. Using best named ACs is just fine tbh and the last high slot is very much open to discussion, some put in a dronelink but that implies sentries meaning shooting at range while not closing the distance, so to me that's not logical.

To get the hang of it you can use a Maelstrom using a similar fitting, you'll have a much better tank but way less range and dps.

I knew posting the fit I used would get jeers and just as I suspected the 'better fits' cost twice (or more) as much and are probably implant boosted and not cap stable (at least not to with skills that I possess). Laugh away, we each play a little bit differently, I play casual, so a loss of a billion isk ship for me hurts. I know I make mistakes and having the 'oops' factor is a nice thing. My build also does not include any benefits from boosters or implants, so you might have a much better stat set than I do.

To the OP, enjoy the Mach, it is a fun toy, but be careful if you use the Maelstrom as a stepping stone, it get a shield boost bonus that the Mach does not.

Well, since we're whipping them out:

MWD for 1500 m/s. Semiconductors for the extra cap (buffer is better than recharge rigs due to MWD.) Auto-targeter for +2 additional locks. Ionic Field Projector for 96km targeting range. Web + Web drone slows target to ~33% speed and the 3 TP drones increase the target's sig size by ~49%, both aspects which improve tracking, especially against cruisers. Lights for frigates that manage to get close.

The Web/TP drones have ~12km optimal range so they're pretty quick to tag a target within 15km range. IME, medium drones didn't provide meaningful additional DPS and Heavy/Sentry drones are too slow and clumsy.

I'll be dropping the Gist shield booster for something smaller/cheaper in the near future. Things die amazingly fast so the extra tank isn't needed for most missions.

Outside of using ACs, there isn't really a fit for it that's going to approximate a Mach. The Mach's biggest strength is its speed, and the Mael is slowest of the Minmatar battleships.

Shield booster is your choice, really, but the Gist C XL is popular on Mach fits and the idea would be to make sure everything ports over nicely (hence the faction gyros). The TCs help get you into a similar falloff bracket as a Mach will have.
