Hello folks. As I've been pacing my quarters lately, I realized I know nothing at all about how and when it was built. Must of skipped school the day it was covered.
So my question would be, how long ago was the first station built? Who built it? How?!
And any other interesting facts would be great.

Thank you kindly - John

The "name" of each station is simply it's location, the corporation that owns it, and it's purpose. This strongly implies that various interstellar mega-corporations for various purposes. If it says "manufacturing" then I would think there are dozens of factories and shipyards in that station. Some are rented to capsuleers, some are used by the Corporation. Most of the people on board work for the corporation in their factories, warehouse, offices, etc. However I always imagined that with millions of people there is also a full-fledged city on board, especially on older stations. I think with proper maintenance and the occasional expensive overhaul a station could last hundreds of years, meanwhile other stations can get abandoned or destroyed. These ruined stations make for excellent pirate hide-outs. There are also smaller space structures out there, but I think they are usually temporary. A full-sized station can be incredibly expensive to build initially, but has relatively low-maintenance, since it can recycle it's air and machinery, where as a small starbase needs fresh air and machinery in the form of Fuel Blocks.
