It's been a while since CCP made it that any launched and connected probes will return to your cargo if you dock or jump. I wish they would do the same when you disconnect while in space. If you lose electricity or Internet while scanning inside a wormhole, and are unable to reconnect to Tranquility within the next hour, you could end up having to self-destruct your ship and your pod (which I consider to be a ****** way to lose your ship and your pod).

I mean, connected drones will already try to return to your bay if you DC and, unlike with probes, that's not even instantaneous.

Whatever, but i am inclined to say no.

When you DC the safe warp mechanic warps you away to a safe spot, when you reconnect and the safe warp mechanic returns you to the same spot you were in when you DC's is is really that hard to press the reconnect button?

This actually happened to me in a wormhole. I got disconnected for a length of time and the probes were not available to reconnect when I logged back in. I filed a petition and probes were added to my cargo hold. Since then I always carry 16 probes. This also has the added advantage of auto-reloading probes into the launcher.

I think this is a good request, but the ability to carry a second set of probes solves the problem already.

I support this change, because it makes sense and is a good QOL improvement. With that said, you can carry an extra set of probes. Encouraging people to carry extra probes is probably a pretty worthwhile goal (if you sell probes).

I'm thinking you didn't get A+ grades in math. I'll make a word problem for you. Do your best to solve it.

After change X there will be no possible way to lose your probes and keep you ship intact. How many extra probes do you need to keep from running out?

As one who routinely suffers DC because of a crappy internet connection I understand this and have experienced them on more occasions than I care to try and count over the years. Even though this change would benefit me personally in game I still say no, it is a bad idea.

When i've launched cruises or any other long range ammo and got dc before they hit the target i want those been safely moved back to my cargo bay. Same about drones.

You don't need to be snarky. At the time I did not fully support the OP's idea. That is why I said I can see arguments for it to go either way. In the current version, you should always carry extra probes. That's just common sense. People who do not are just being penny wise and pound foolish.

On the other hand, I think it is stupid that disconnecting from the game for an hour causes you to lose your probes, but jumping into another system or docking up does not. The first situation is annoying and outside your control. The second just means you are careless. I could support the idea that if you are careless you should risk losing your probes, if it wasn't so freaking nice of the developers to make it the way it is now.

Eve can still be a fun and challenging game without having little annoyances that are like getting poked in the eye by the spoon in your coffee cup all the time. Yes, you are being lazy if you do not take the spoon out of the cup before drinking it, but many times I think Eve's UI is like having the coffee spoon stuck in the cup all the time. Painful and irritating. Randomly losing probes because you get a disconnect and they are out in space for an hour is really obnoxious.

The parenthetical I stated above goes without saying: of course the people who sell probes would prefer to see them get lost more often. Making probes one time use, like regular ammo, sounds really annoying and a kick in the teeth to explorers and WH dwellers. There have been days where I scanned two hundred systems (I used to run a scanning loop through Eastern Tenal multiple times a day). You really expect covert ops ships to carry dozens of sets of probes? Get real.

Making them expire, like faction or T2 crystals, is likewise annoying. It would just encourage folks to use T1 probes most of the time, except where it gave a significant advantage. Not to mention that they would not stack nicely, so now the ship hanger ends up full of damaged probes. Would people use faction probes if they only offered a few percent advantage and made no appreciable difference once your skills were high enough? No.

And of course you are all ignoring the most important way in which you can lose probes: when someone blows up your ship!

Sometimes I get the sense that many people want playing Eve to be hard for the sake of being hard. I think the challenge should come primarily from other players, secondarily from the game environment, but never the UI. Arguing against this idea is like adding a rule that you have to sit on thumbtacks while you play chess.

I honestly feel that this is not needed, reconnect is enough. probes are invulnerable, or just about. there is no need to recall them unlike drones in a combat site. Furthermore reconnecting to probes from a DC normally lets you pick up right where you left off. very convenient... i only wish the system filters didn't reset.

A fair question and the answer is simple. For those who make ISK off manufacturing and selling probes this would most likely take a significant chunk out of there markets for probes and I am against that. And yes I was against the change to have drones attempt to recall to your ship if you DC, dock or jump out of the system for the same reason and yes I am a drones pilot and the old system cost me ISK on s constant basis. But I would still vote to go back to the old system if we were given the chance.

Another part of this is when and where do all of these QOL ( protect stupid players from themselves) changes stop?
Maybe we should just have CCP change the game so you automaticaly dock the moment some one scans your ship or attempts to target you. Don't be stupid you say but I am not, I have witnessed this dumbing down of a game to protect stupid from themselves before and I am seeing that same trend in EvE right now and I simply do not like it.

I am all for QOL changes to the game as long as they meet a few simple criteria.
1. They must have no to minimal impact on the markets and those players that manufacturer the things we all buy.
2. They must not be game able, exploitable etc.
