Side note seeing as we are talking launcher/login stuff...

Can we maybe get a switch character option so instead of fully quitting out of the client we can just quickly switch back to the character selection screen for efficiency sake?

So if the outrage from even the mention of the exefile login being removed is any indication- CCP you need to put a LOT more attention to improving and fixing the launcher before you even think about removing the workaround. I know the article has been pulled already and clarified, but look at this as an opportunity to see the feedback on how happy we are with the Launcher in its current state (hint: we're not).


  • Auto downloads and applies patches without having to restart the launcher after downtime for it to figure out there is an update.
  • Error codes that actually make sense to humans - as opposed to THIS (what is that, a CD key??). I don't even want to know what caused it to do THIS (actually I do)
  • Not having the Username/Password login window just be MISSING while the rest of the launcher animations load.
  • Being able to deal with a DNS resolution issue and fallback to IP address - using the exefile is a frequent workaround to this issue during a temporary routing issue or region specific DDOS.
  • Increasing the performance speed of the launcher so it doesn't take so long to load up or switch accounts.
  • If you're using a VPN or frequently changing IP address, the IP Verification step comes up every time you put in the password incorrectly, and even if it does log in properly, it doesn't remember the IP address and will ask you to verify the character name again the next time. Putting in the Character name just boots you back to the login username/password screen, so it's useless anyway.

What is the expected priority and turnaround for response if we are having problems with the Launcher? In USTZ?

Because I've logged BUGS (EBR-35979) and just had them closed and ignored, when the launcher looks like THIS.

Am I going to be able to get actual troubleshooting done with the GMs in a timely manner? Take a look at THIS thread and answer if I will get actual cause and resolution within 2 weeks, or just a canned response linking to the article on how to reinstall the launcher?

TLDR: The launcher needs more functionality, resilience, and supportability before you even think about taking away the exe. And that's not even talking about 2-Factor Authentication yet.

I use neither the launcher nor the exe file to launch EVE (just the launcher to update), so pfft, who cares.

As far as I can see, as long as you only use the launcher to update, stuff should still work as it has for the past 2 years, or however long there has been a launcher.

As someone who launches the Launcher updating and then closing it, and then launching 4 clients from the evefile.exe (stored in the same location, but referenced through 4 different symlinks) so that I don't have to reposition the screen every time, http://imgur.com/5AIMHWg
I like to have account 1 on the bottom Left Screen, account 2 on the Top Left Screen, account 3 on the Top Right Screen, account 4 on the Bottom Right Screen.

Now the above being said, If CCP ever changes the screen position changes to be remembered per account, instead of per install location, I might actually consider using the launcher to actually launch the game.

To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing the old .exe go if the launcher was actually useful. Unfortunately, however, even after several years it still proves to be overtly cumbersome and clumsy, and I'm somewhat baffled as to why it was never streamlined. Even the simple process of switching accounts on the new launcher is an arduous process.

Are there any plans to address the glaring issues with the new launcher in the near future?

Launcher has never worked for me since I started playing again a couple of weeks ago.

I should not have to download another file, delete a directory and install something. You should fix your launcher. it has been crap since it was introduced.

Guess I will wait to extend sub or start another account till I see how this works out.

Point of record, the 'community' didn't misunderstand a god damn thing (best read in the voice of Samuel L Jackson for effect). It was pretty clear what was stated, thus ragecage '15 over this. Unless you're referring to CSMs?
