If CCP can make DUST why cant it make WiS?

Did you try that CQ? notice the actual character movement controls? they are like *BEEP* beyond anything...
In short, CCP cant even make sane movement control how can you expect them to make WiS

Yeah. Using pre-recorded human motions for animation in MMOs and games of the like has become pretty standard (see RIFT for a good example). Dont know what CCP was thinking there.

Ya, not necessarily saying you were whining but a lot of people were.

From what I've seen of the devs the past few years from their efforts on forums and in Fanfest and how they love us and the game, I still think that the main devs, the ones that actually get the things done that we see, will always love and respect us.

The thing that caused the "cash cow" sentiment was probably the business and marketing guys that don't see much more of the game than it's logo tacked on a graph of costs and sales. And to enforce that there were rumors around the time of the Incarna fail that there was a growing rift between the CCP executives and the actual working devs, cause devs wuv us and the execs didn't care.

Im really confused becuase the impression I get is that CCP cant seem to make WiS work right, yet DUST is WiS on steroids.

Is it a matter of not being able to do it (WiS), or not finding a good reason to do it? Obviously, current CQ is not WiS. It's a bored, clunky toon in a room, and the way CCP muscled it in on us (like it or leave) didtn work either. Nor is MT a good reason to have WiS either.

So, where exactly is the bottleneck in it's devlopment?

Where is EVE going?


Dust = off-the-shelf UT3 engine which has been field-tested dozens of times, is feature-complete and has a large pool of cheap talent available to hire

WiS = CCP's own Carbon engine, still at a very early stage in its development, has never been used in anything by anyone, only a few dozen icelandic guys know anything about it

DUST is based on the Unreal or Quake engine... which has been around forever, and isn't being written from scratch.


First off Unreal and Quake has engines have massive issues with telling them to have slightly different character models on demand with warp targets as its called in common terms. Which is why the perfect excuse that Dust marines are all generic clones, problem solved no need to give everyone a unique face in a FPS envrionment.

Carbon is not only thier graphics engine its thier new core technology methodology that basically alows one game's developmetns to be easily shared with some other game even if its a world apart. Which mean that eve had to suffer its largest rewrite since its inception. So get that through you thick skull please. You'll see dust 514 have its own carbon based logo as well.

Examples, we stole planetary graphics form Dust 514. They stole eve new nebulas from us for thier map interfaces. Eve then we stole WoDs character rendering engines.

Also Earlies Dust has only been in development would be the launch of the shanghai studio at the earliest. Defining development as throwing down actual code, writing checks twoards it, and getting laywers.

As for the actual head in the clouds not a twinkle in ccps eyes, yeah its been around since day 1, except day 1 back then vision was us players commanding armies via RTS style. Not the desk general jobs we are getting now.
