Risk=ISK Scams

I decided to take some time (and money) and characterize the scammers that prey on the innocent (and foolish) .

To do this, I follow a scammers spam to the letter and characterize the resulting behavior. I will post the instigating character name (and link where possible) and describe there pre-scam and post-scam behavior.

While the cost isn't insignificant (about 1 day of operations), I think it may be worth it to those who actually believe they might get something for nothing.

Lets start with my first post:

Imminent Failscade (https://gate.eveonline.com/Profile/Imminent%20Failscade)

Her spam in high sec invites you to test her Wallet API. After you do she follows up with a kind email informing you to wait 30 minutes to check the wallet API update. The wallet is impressive. Her rules are simple and one can not mis-step on following them. After 30 minutes you get another kind e-mail letting you know you can check the wallet and then get some ISK.

You can send e-mail and chat up to this point. As soon as you send the money (I sent the smallest amount). She immediately blocks you.

This is the classic Risk=ISK scam. Some will actually play the smaller amounts so you can string them out (or they you). Ms. Failscade will take the minimum amount and run. (As is her right).

I will try to follow up with others as time (and money) permit. There may be a lot of toons out there, but eventually the older ones will have to be recycled.

Please let the dude conduct his experiments! Cause apparently most don't know this valuable information considering the nr of new isk doubling alts getting created daily it must mean its still working....or is it just me getting double vision ( instead of isk :( )

This article (http://www.pcgamer.com/isk-scams-eve-online/) covers most if not all.

The idea is that some of the scammers might string the smallest amount along with the player. E.g they say give me 1 - 10M ISK and you get 2X, 20 - 50M ISK I give you 3X etc.)

You trial the smallest amount and see what they do. In some cases you get what they say and they invite you to do even more. This one had a setup that allowed the smallest amount to parley into the next tier and from that point on you can give back what they gave you, but you keep your initial trial amount -- or walk away with the winnings. At worst your only out that smallest amount ... but now you have that toon's game.

It is a craps shoot, yes.

But if you make a mark look like an easy mark , will the Con push the game? One can hope -- as we say don't fly it if you can't afford to lose it. Same goes here.

Maybe I should start a legitimate isk doubling service with all plays over 50m being
a donation to continue services!

Minimum donation must be an odd number between 50m to 200m.
Can only play twice but second play can not be less than previous winnings.

Please do give me a try!
