Worth using faction PoS now-a-days?

So with teh coming changes to PoS set-ups and such, along with the very limited info we have regarding them, would you all as a community consider faction towers to be worth investing in for actual use right now (IE: to be deployed) or just to stick with the tried an true bog standard small/med/large tower (assuming RoI on the faction tower purchase is a non-issue/already paid itself off)?
Sure the 4/8 cube reduction in fuel cost for large towers is handy and at the current 15,000 isk/cube average (60k/120k isk saved per hour or 1.4 million/2.8 million saved per day) is handy but what do you all think?

Depending on the situation it might still be worth it. The prices crashed hard after the dev blog release. It's not only the savings in fuel but also the time and nerves. If you use them in a wormhole, you need to make less trips to refuel etc. also its still unclear when the change will come and how long old poses will still be around. Might be another year. Only don't count on the resale value.

The crucial topic of refunds for faction Towers still lingers unanswered, though. Smile

Yeah I have written off resale of my 2 large domination towers, then again I did find one of the BPC's myself (I could of sold it true. but back then it was around 900 mill for the BPC, so the 'loss' is minimal even at current faction tower prices, infact I think it's still a slight profit even with the crash). Also the savings have made up for a bit with fuel...so not fussed.

How they handle the faction based structures I am keen to see, if they even are. Either way it is going to be interesting to see.

I thought citadels were going to replace the POS system? Wouldn't CCP just convert everyone's Control tower to a small citadel or something?

I highly doubt it as the entire fittings system is totally different and some things no longer will exist as they do in their current form like the construction/research structures as it will depend on which type of structure you want (citadel is only one of several types. There is a mining based on, a RnD one, a construction one...admin...it's in an iolder post, assuming they are still going that direction. Citadels seem to be the bread and butter combat orientated structure).

I've told my friends to sell any extra starbase stuff.

I'm also reducing the number of POS modules on active towers, and selling what I can.

Will citadels be deployable in hisec or losec? I got the impression somewhere they're just nullsec/wh space.

The blog indicates that they will be in all sec statuses, because it points out that some of the weapon systems will not be available for use on hi-sec citadels.

I would question whether it is worth anchoring any industrial POS this close to their retirement.

Things have already changed a lot since the days when the best hi-sec industrial POS was an unarmed Dread Guristas Medium. The benefits and functionality of a POS have been reduced, the costs have been increased, the risks have been massively increased and we already know that what little remains of the old POS system is on its way out.

I'm not sure what benefits you expect to receive that will justify it?
