Okay, first day playing. Only on the trial, but I will definitely subscribe when the trial ends. But I have a few qestions;

First, how do I find a good corp to join?

How can I make money quickly? (That's still fun)

And what are some beginner tips you could give me?

Remember, explain everything like it's my first day. Because it is.

Oh, one more thing. There was another thread I read, and someone said something like "Wait for people to donate you millions of ISK" after the OP asked how to get started... what does this person mean by this? Do people randomly donate ISK?

Well, thanks. Remember, I'm a COMPLETE NOOB. I've done the Buisness career thing and that's it.

Day one advance,

don't panic.
if it looks too good to be true, it is.

Don't trust anyone with your stuff.

Finding a corp is done by making friends, chatting to people ,even the ones that just shot your face in....actually especially those guys.

a good attitude will get you much much further here than anything else believe me on that.

Eve is hard and that's ok, we like it that way, so never be afraid to ask questions and many of us (even the big meanie faced PvP guys) will be happy to drop some advice.

With regard asking for isk...there's a bit of a tradition here regarding newbies chat with the first couple of players that blow you up (helps if you go "that was cool mate" as aposed to "**** you ****ing ****").

Welcome aboard mate.

Edit: at no point put everything you own in one ship, one of us (probably loyd) will blow it up on you and take whatever is left.
don't worry about this for the first little bit but once you have enough that You would be sad to se disappear it's a different matter.

Where do I go to get blown up? Is there some sort of appication I have to fill out? Do they charge?

Also, here's some information about the sisters of eve story arc, it's designed to help newbies get setup with some isk.

Chat to the people in local while you're doing it and see if anyone wants to help, you may make friends.

I spent a day on my sofa deep in russian sov in a station I had no roles to dock in [lul jump clone] sending 300m to every pilot that came up on my fancy space tv.

Bastards didn't even have a space Dennys.
I had to settle with space Waffle House.

I am just here to snuggle and do spy stuff.

As mentioned earlier:

Go out and find some action, strike up some friendly convos with said action. Just don't feel locked into the first group that takes you in, you will eventually grow apart and move onto other interests. Everyone expects this. Make buddies, buddies are fun no matter what color standings they have with you at the moment :)

That said, I recommend you do the tutorials ( yes, all of them ) then get your newbie ISK to fund your welcome wagon frigates by doing the sisters of Eve epic arc. Should pull in about 20 mil if I remember right.

That ISK should fund about 20 or so frigates at your skill level, don't think fancy, think disposable.

Then go find some nice people to shoot at / get shot at by.

Normally ISK showers in on plucky new players with a great attitude in the lower security parts of space.
I think some groups operate in high sec too, so feel free to check out sigs in some of the veterans posts in this forum for ideas.

First if you subscribe as soon as you make the trial you still get the free 30 days so there is no need to wait. You also don't need to sub asap either but if you come to a point where you want to train a skill that is not available for trials or want to do contracts or something like that then you can sub and still have all of your free game time.

Making isk in a way that is still fun really depends on what you consider fun. Pretty much in this game what ever you like doing there is a way to make isk doing it. So try a lot of stuff out and stick with what you like.

Probably the best advice that I can give for finding a good corp is shop around. Most corps that are recruiting have public channels that you can sit in and talk to people to see which one seems like a good fit. Also there is a guide just above your post here in with all the stickys.

You don't need to wait for your trial's end to sub. It will just add 30 days to what ever you have left on your trial.

Since you've only got 1 day in though I would suggest scrapping it to take advantage of a buddy invite. If you do that, when you upgrade to a full acct they will award whoever sent the buddy invite with a plex. Most people will give you a good portion, if not all of that isk and you make an instant contact to bounce questions off of. There is a sticky at the top of this forum subsection with a list of people offering to cut you in on the buddy invite action. Or you could ahoot me a mail if you are so inclined.

Welcome to eve.

On the left of your screen in game is a list of icons. click on the "corporation" one, you will find there a search tool for corporations. Whatever other standards you choose, don't forget to tick "new players friendly".

How can I make money quickly? (That's still fun)

Missions with corpies, exploration (with corpies or solo). Also, Once you have done all the tutorial missions, you'd enjoy to follow the Sisters of Eve epic arc.

And what are some beginner tips you could give me?

1) Don't fly what you can't afford to lose many times.
2) Don't take Eve as a second job.
3) Have your own will. Don't follow blindly "traditons", doctrines, and other conventions. Be yourself.
4) Find a players run corporation with friendly, helpful players who are active in your time zone.

Remember, explain everything like it's my first day. Because it is.

Oh, one more thing. There was another thread I read, and someone said something like "Wait for people to donate you millions of ISK" after the OP asked how to get started... what does this person mean by this? Do people randomly donate ISK?

Do you really want to beg for money, or do you prefer to build your own way ?

One thing that I can add to this is that if you are experienced at playing MMOs then forget everything that you have learned. Eve is very different and concepts that are basic and vital to understand in other games can and will work against you in Eve.

Eve is often about doing less with more. There are no balanced, managed queueable PvP instances in Eve. Also it would take something like 20 years to train all skills to level 5 however you can be close to all level skills for a races small ships in just a few months and the same for all 4 races in not much longer. Combine that with the fact that probably the number one most followed PvP stat in this game is isk lost versus isk destroyed ratio.

What this boils down to is that Eve is often more about the meta game, meaning more of a focus on what your opponent is think that you are thinking.

Also probably the best advice for a new player is that if you are playing the game efficiently then you learn and thus become a better player with each ship loss. Since ships are tools and disposable tools at that you will be most likely best served by an attitude of trying to learn those lessons rather than avoid the experience which leads to wisdom.

Back when rifters were the dominant solo PvP ship there used to be a saying in Eve that if you wanted to learn to PvP in Eve then buy 100 rifters and commit to loosing them all in one weekend. This advice is still true with the exception that it's not just the rifter now.

Welcome aboard and please fell free to ask questions we were all new once upon a time.

I support the idea of running all of the tutorials as a way of A. getting free stuff, and B. giving you an idea of all that there is to do in EvE.

I agree with finding a corp to join, what I do not agree with is running out and trying to find one right now.
Corps tend to attract like minded individuals so it really is better if you know what you want to do before trying to find a corp to join it helps to reduce the number of possible options. No fun being an indy player in a PvP corp, or a PvP player in an indy corp.

There are multiple chat channels in game specifically set up to help new players, joining one of those may be helpful as well.

Now some links to help with a variety of things.

I will not argue your point as it is valid for some players. However wisdom can come from many sources and some of the most knowledgeable players I know in this game have suffered very few ship losses.

Now if you are heading into the PvP (traditional shoot others players definition inserted here) part of the game then losing ships is likely to be one of the best teachers you will ever have.

This really depends on what you're looking for.

PvP - Brave Newbies, Pandemic Horde and Karmafleet are newbie friendly.
PvE/PvP - EvE University I suppose or any random null/lowhigh-sec corp that promises to be newbie friendly? Dunno
PvE - EVE University or any random high-sec corp that promises to be newbie friendly? Dunno

How can I make money quickly? (That's still fun)

Your definition of fun will likely vary from everybody else. You can make a profit doing almost anything. Hell, one of the easiest way for a newbie to make money is to chill at gate Uedaema or Narija on the Amarr <-> Jita route and scoop loot from suicide gank runs.

-Explanation: Jita and Amarr are the two largest systems for Trade. There are several 0.5 security system where Concord is slower to respond that gankers like to camp along to pop auto-piloting/loot pinatas. They will suicide gank the ship and then somebody else will scoop the loot. You're mission, should you choose to accept. Is to scoop that loot before they do. You never know what you might find.

And what are some beginner tips you could give me?

1. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.

2. Liquid Isk isn't everything, you don't HAVE to sell your previous ship to fund the purchase of your next ship. In fact this practice will likely end with you in violation of rule #1. Hold onto the ship/fittings and WHEN something goes south. Atleast you not doomed to the rookie ship.

3. Trust no one and talk to everyone. EVE is a game where you can cheat, lie and scam your way to success. IIRC the only scamming you are not allowed to do are character sales and plex for good. That said, if you followed the previous 2 rules, getting cheated, lied to or scammed will just be an annoyance.

4. 99% never pay ransom for your ship/pod. It's is unlikely they will be honoured. This goes back to Rule #1,2 and 3

Oh, one more thing. There was another thread I read, and someone said something like "Wait for people to donate you millions of ISK" after the OP asked how to get started... what does this person mean by this? Do people randomly donate ISK?

I suppose so. I know when I buy new character/accounts and am imprisoned in the rookie channel, some times some SOB/amusing stories moves me to throw iskies at people.

It's actually kind of nice when those newbies reach out to me months later, thank me for the donation and tell me stories of how it helped them succeed. That's the 1% of times when I toss out free isk.

Well, thanks. Remember, I'm a COMPLETE NOOB. I've done the Buisness career thing and that's it.
