One option you should consider is to see if you can mitigate damage through orbital speed.

When I'm baiting against gun boats I always drop an orbit can and orbit at a range chosen to reduce inbound damage as much as possible.

If you are worried about the hulks and not about the Orca, you could set up a high speed orbit around the orca. High orbital (the tighter the better against close range ships) can reduce damage substantially and make your tank go a lot longer.

Now, I can't even fly a retriever so take this advice with a grain of salt.

Read about gun mechanics to see how this affects damage, but you should never stand still and traveling in a straight line is no better.

If you are in a belt, orbit something.

I just bumped my own because I want to know if this is legit for miners.

I'm sure you could protect against tornados like this, but I'm curious if anyone has done the orbital math for miners.

I'm assuming the gank is being delivered in destroyers. Can you orbit fast enough to mitigate a standard gank dessie?

Op, please search forums for "welcome to pvp, v2". It's a tutorial I wrote about pvp. In it, I explain maneuver tactics for minimizing or increasing damage transfer. Whether you can do much good between a hulk and Dessie or not, it is stuff I think you would benefit from knowing.

I don't think moving at 200m/s in a shield tanked barge will do much to mitigate damage from a cafalyst fit with 8x light ion or neutron blasters.

A competent shield tank on a procurer or skiff eliminates the solo ganker as a threat, while proper utilization of local tank followed by station tank will suffice against multiple gankers or multiboxers.

The only reason I'd say try this out is if you actually enjoy the "thrill" of evading ganks. Otherwise you will lose these ships at some point. Good on you for the innovative idea though.

I see people using both these ships fairly often in backwater systems. There's a great deal to be said for just being aware of what systems/regions see the most frequent ganking activity.

Does it make you more sad than when I look in my hangar? Down at the end on the right. There is this massive hangar door. It's open. It's empty. The label says thanatos carrier but there is only a pair of asslesschapps lying in the center of the hangar as a reminder. The asslesschapps are the symbol of a man, no not a man, a scumbag. A scumbag who does not honor his word.

I'll tell you what Leto. If you pay your debt and give me the thanatos carrier that is owed, then in your honor I will permanantly name that carrier Asslesschapps and fly it with pride and honor.

Knowing deep inside and showing for all to behold, the you truely are a man of honor and a man of your word. A man who pays his depts, keeps his word and repays acts of kindness.

The morbid delusions.... some would pay for such things that come to you free of charge.

How much ISK would you say a Thanatos carrier costs? On average 2 bil ish?

I have a deal for you.

In the name of content, I hereby charge you with the solemn duty of ganking miners with Vigilant class pirate cruisers. If you produce said killmails, totaling the cost of a thanatos, I will provide the carrier.

They must ALL be miners, of different accounts (not your alts, god knows you have enough of them), and the Vigilants (it must be those) must be destroyed by CONCORD to be eligible.

Fool me once - shame on you. Fool me twice - shame on me.

Look at it logically. Do the math.

I save your vindi from griffin hell for 2 thanatos carriers.

You pay none.

I'm a good sport, so I reduce it to one thanatos carrier. You still don't honor your word.

Now you cook up this.... this..... I'm not even sure what to call it. We all know you don't pay debts or repay kindnes. Please please do explain what is different about this deal compared to the last one you did not honor?

If you are aware of your surroundings, you don't need one of those silly permits. As scams go, they're pretty small, but still worth way less than they're trying to extort you for.

That hulk setup would work nicely if you are watching local. You have several seconds to respond between their arrival in the system you're in and their arrival in your face. If space starts filling up with greys, mash dscan for catas. If it's reds, get out of space.

Leaving HS removes most of the ganking issue.

For example CODE doesn't operate ourside of HS. Sure when called out, they will link a km or 2, but no one and I mean no one in CODE speaks up on comms and rallies these role players for a roam outside of the safety of empire.

One time I had 4 of them chasing my mackinaw through the citadel. I made it to lowsex and jumped in. I looked back in my rear veiw mirror and there the were -piled up against the gate like cord wood. I would have taunted them in local, but they were afraid to jump in.

Find a nice wh and mine there. Sure you'll lose a few barges now and again, but you won't be hastled by a bunch of deep immersion role players. The roids are much better in wh space. Some are as big as the CODE manifesto (I know right).

Just saying that if the role players get your down..... you can come mine with me anytime.

This will be a first for me. In my short time playing eve and even shorter time visiting these forums I will now today right this minute for the first and last time ever endorse/recommend a code product or service.

If you are having trouble understanding the most basic game mechanics, or if you lack common sense or are just plain lazy, and you've decided that a N.O./code permit is the way to go, then this is the guy to buy it from.

This fellow here, one Revis Owen, he is your man. This self admitted agent of the new order of hisec, for the low price of 10 million isk , will sell you a permit and YOU WILL NEVER SEE OR HEAR FROM HIM AGAIN.

Mining afk? You can do it.
Excessive mining? Not a problem.
If you enjoy mining in untanked faction exhumers while simultaneously swearing like a sailor in local chat, then a mining permit from Revis Owen is for you.

Seriously folks, this guy may be the all time worst agent in the history of the new order, but he makes up for it with his dedication and zeal. If you dont believe me just read some of his previous posts in this thread.
