Time for a new industrial?

First off, if there is some reason for this, or if it has been justified by ccp, please don't hate, as I am a new player. With that off, on with the show.

I noticed, looking in ISIS, that there are no ships between T2 Industrials and JF/Freighter in terms of cargo capacity. Now, I realize that the purpose of T2 Industrials is not cargo space, but armor/speed for blockade runners and whatever the **** the other one was called. Still, to me it seems ridiculous that a freighter has such a ridiculously large cargo hauling ability then the industrials. The end result is that becomes impossible to transport anything larger than a destroyer, ship wise, unless you have 40 days of skilling for caps, something which new players can't/shouldn't do. This leads, basically, to making transport of all but modules impossible for anyone who hasn't been playing for years. Doesn't seem like the best idea to me. Thoughts?

Look at Deep Space Transporters (DST).
w/ Transport Ships V you have a 62.500 m² Fleethangar.
Big enough for 25 Frigs or 12 Destroyers + 5000m² Shiphangar for moduls and ammo for a small deployment.

Skilltraining isn't that long, if you realy want to haul by yourself.

The problem, for me, is that I don't want to haul per se. I want the option to haul, because that will be useful. Obviously, ASC V is necessary for caps, so it is a good thing to have. But to me, it doesn't make much sense to train it, since caps are multiple years off for me (3 weeks old.) I just think something with a lower Skill requirement (two weeks, perhaps) with 30-50k general hold would be nice to have.

Also, looking in game just now, I see that you need racial industrial to V, which takes almost as long as ASC, but isn't required for all caps, so not as useful elsewhere. Plus Transport is a x6, so by the time that is at level 5, I'll have a freighter with freighter to 4. Only advantage there is the price, definitely a good thing, but trying to be price-agnostic here.

You want to have huge cargo, low skill-time for the ship and the ship should cost not even more than a t1-hauler?

Thats not how EVE is working in general.

Special abilities are used to have higher skill-requirements and/or higher costs.

I'm not all that familiar with T1 industrials, but isn't what you want an Ity-5? I'm fairly sure you can rig and cargo expand that bad boy out to pretty decent levels. And no, I'm not going to EFT that up for you to find out for certain, because if you just started EVE you need to know some of the required tools to find these answers yourself.

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/3rd_party_tools?utm_source=Launcher&utm_medium=LauncherAd&utm_term=Wiki&utm_campaign=3rdParty

EFT is a must-have. Just be sure to update it every six weeks when CCP updates the game.

EVEMON is also a must-have for long term character planning.

Both tools are fairly simple to use. It might take a little time to become familiar with all the nice little features they have, but it is well worth it.

With EFT, you won't be asking if there's a ship that fits your need. EFT will show you the answer. When you get that answer from EFT, you'll have to find out if the answer is practical or not. For that, either experience will tell you, or then you can ask that on the forums and it is a much better question to ask.

A Bestower (Amarr T1 indy) can hit just over 37k cargo space if rigged and fit for cargo space, and that's with Amarr Industrial at 4. The Gallente Itty 5 is a little below that.

The Orca can be used as a liaison between the small haulers and the big boyz. it fits a lot of cargo and can be made to warp in 10 seconds, all with about a quarter million EHP.

I said nothing about cost. I'm not talking about *huge* cargo either, simply something to patch the difference between a t1 industrial, which takes a day and gives 7k m3, and a freighter, which takes 40, and has 60-70 times the cargo space. I think there is a room for middle ground in there.....

So that's with expanded cargo 2s in low, rigs for cargo space. Anything else I'm missing?

There are rigs that increase cargo size as well.

missing the part about if you carry anything of value you are very easy to kill.

And if you carry 27k m3 o f pi, which is cheap ****. Hauling can get you killed, but that's not what I created this thread to discuss.

I think if you actually drove a freighter 10 jumps. It would kill off any desire to actually train to fly them.
They are glacial slow and handle like an apartment complex. They are huge targets, because of the vast cargo hold, so only the folks hauling a loads of Veldspar can auto pilot portions of their route.

For the most part the DST is the way to go. Many train Gallente to take advantage of the other T1 indy's that the Gallente have. The ore hauler in particular is very useful.

It is actually faster to use a DST to make 2 trips than use a freighter to make one trip. If there are multiple DST pilots available you can split the load and the risk between them. Haulers get attacked in high sec all the time. Remember that every time you undock. Ask yourself how many Gallente Dessies will it take to kill me and divide that number by the value of your cargo. If your cargo value exceeds the number of Dessies by enough, chances your going to get attacked go up. Especially in busy places like trade hubs, or common routes between these locations.

Finally, buck up and train the L5 racial indy skill. I know it's long, but truth be told L5 indy is nothing compared to what comes later.

Nope, that's it. It's paper-thin, so don't fly it in or out of the trade hubs or in known ganking systems and don't stuff it full of valuable items.

At this point I'm guessing you didn't bother to look too closely at the T1 industrials. Each race has at least two, one faster and with smaller cargo space (eg the Sigil for Amarr) and one slower and with larger cargo space (eg the Bestower)

But even the smaller ones are more than 7k with a couple levels of the ship skill and fitted for cargo space.

I did take a look. I'm talking purely about cargo space here; that is the point. Nowhere, anywhere, did I mention speed. Thanks for telling me what I already know. As for Skills: True, but the same applies to freighters, and 1.05 x 80 is more than 1.05x 1. So from the absolute stand[point, thanks for bolstering my point! Big smileTwisted

There is no need for additional haulers. As mentioned T1 haulers can haul up to about 30K with minimal training. Training Gallente haulers gives you the ability to haul large amouts of PI, Minerals or Ores with minimal training. Maxing them out takes time but the value of being able to use DSTs and BRs is well worth the train for Industrial V if you ever plan on leaving highsec and/or hauling valuable cargo in highsec. Orca is the middle ground between Industrial Haulers and Freighters.

Speed, cargo capacity and tank are all factors of hauling, ignoring any part of this equation will lead to severe inefficiency and possibly loss. So while you would like to ignore 2 of the 3 factors in your comparison this is an ignorant thing to do.

If you don't want to train for haulers, you don't have to, there are plenty of players around that will move your stuff for a very small amount of isk via contract.
