Just to split hairs over the term "obsolete", if you mean there's something newer/faster on the market, that's the only true definition of obsolete nowadays.

Hardware has far outpaced software for most people's needs. That being said, I'd still personally tend toward a regular ATX myself in a new build just for expandability reasons.

One can throw together a computer that will play EVE, from a retailer selling office surplus along with a few upgrades from eBay for <$200 nowadays.
