Time's running out to gorge yourselves on cheap plex.

Take a quick look at the 6 month history graph for plex - the only times recently that the market has dropped significantly have been due to direct CCP intervention. The "are plex prices a bubble?" advert on the login screen ran around the 1st of June and the market tanked accordingly. The same thing happened shortly before the incarna release when CCP used the advert to quash plex price speculation as prices hit 400m again.

The current bulk-plex promotion has dropped the price of plex far below what the market will bear, I'd say they're probably in the range of 20-40m under-valued and you'll see prices approach 390 or 400 within six or eight weeks as the market corrects.

My back of the envelope calculations say that prices hit 390 within six weeks. If you buy in around 365 you're looking at a 25m profit per unit over six weeks, or roughly 7%. That's a hell of a lot better than most of the "investment opportunities" here on MD.

For those that can't figure it out on their own the "right price" for plex, according to CCP, is under 400m per unit. If you do decide to jump onto the freeplexmoneys bandwagon I suggest you get off before 400m.

what makes you think 400m is the magic number?

Apart from the obvious (CCP cash grab), seems to me prices will fall further

i would recommend stocking at 300-330, if we get that low, certainly not now.

Also 7% is a bit low tbh.

how you been Qube, long time no speak :D

I don't think prices are going anywhere but up in the near future. I know this might sound like crap, but that market really wants to jump - if it weren't for CCP pushing it down to keep it below 400 (and losing old players when plex become "too expensive") I think it'd probably hit at least 430 or 440m before stopping.

There's a lot more isk in EVE these days than there was three years ago and it's easier now to make a lot of isk in a short time if you know what you're doing. Both of those combined mean that more people can, and will, make more isk more quickly and in turn they'll pay more for plex. I'd call it inflation, but I'm sure someone will scream at me if I do.

Unless CCP does something else to push the price of plex down I don't see it dropping before it hits 400 again tbqfh. 390 would be a conservative "get out" point.

edit: Assuming I'm not a complete ******, 7% over 6 weeks on 100b or so isn't too bad for a low-effort investment Ugh I mean, judging by the "investment opportunities" here on MD I'm pretty sure a couple people out there have more isk than they can actively use on their own.

re: 400 being the magic number, 400 is where CCP has taken action three times in the last 6 months - have a look at the history graph for Jita, every time plex are poised to break 400 and keep going CCP rolls out a fresh lolplexprices campaign.

I've been tracking prices and trading the spread the last week since the promotion started, there's been constant upward pressure on the buy side since the initial supply glut and panic sell-off last weekend. I was picking plex up in 20 unit stacks on Sunday for 360m with no effort, now I have to fight to get them at 364 in stacks of 10.

I'm good, I've been busy with real-life™ stuff recently so I haven't been playing much lately. Catch me in SCC- sometime.

cheers

There is no doubt 400m per PLEX appears to be CCP's magic number to take action to make them cheaper.
There is also no doubt 350m per PLEX appears too be CCP's magic number to take action to make them more expensive.

The problem is "Summer is over" which means a lot of "Kids" are now back to school, which means it's just older non-school "kids" playing EVE making up the majority of the population. In the past this is also the start of the low-point for the economy, items start to build up quantity in Jita and naturally get cheaper.

PLEX usually goes the opposite when it comes to economy performance, so I'd think they'll be raising in price. But it'll take a week or two for the market rubber band on PLEX. There is a little left over from the massive "13 PLEX for $199" deal.

I'm along the lines of thinking plex's will continue to rise.

I have some of my isk in them at the moment since the 360 lows.

What I did consider at the time is taking out several collateralised bonds repeatedly on them at 80-100% to buy more. I don't think MD fancies investing over 200billion in anyone at the moment though.

The other issue is although we all pretty much feel plex will go up, the actual % change is quite small and when the cost of the bond is taken into consideration you remove alot of the upside making it a fairly risky investment for yourself.

It's only really worthwhile if you have isk that your not 100% sure what to do with.

Please remember that about a year ago, you could fgind plexes between 300-330m isk. Then there was a huge upswing when the Nex was coming out. Now they've droped to their new normal price of 350-365m . I don't really see there being any signifficant rise in plex prices. Also, I wouldn't solely base your discussion from Jita. Eve Central is your ticket.

Eve central data is mostly garbage, the only prices that are remotely accurate are the main hubs and even then the data is easily poisoned. Look at the volume of plex transacted in Jita, Amarr, Dodixie and Rens/Hek - Jita is the dominant market bar-none. Yes, you can babysit region orders and scoop up cheap plex, that takes time. If you want a plex, now, you go to a hub and pay hub prices.

Let's see where plex go over the next couple months, then we can discuss "the new normal."

PLEX prices will rise in the long run. Why? Because people will keep buying with the craploads of ISK they are generating.
Yes, this is inflation. No, it won't stop. As long as the ISK balance is positive, PLEX price will go up.

You are right about inflation, but don't forget that CCP is fully aware of that. They are creating new 'stuff' for people to buy, hoping people will spend their isk on it. Dust will bring us new Orbital Command Structures to buy. And we can spend isk hiring Dust players as mercenaries. Maybe in the future we can rent shops in stations. And we'll probably get new ships (new destroyer?). One of the nullsec design goals is the destruction of manufactured goods. They run a business: adding content to make us spend isk is a top priority.

Look at how well that worked with planetary command centers and the associated skill-books. Oh, right, it didn't.

im not convinced.

Things remain unstable in terms of player numbers and its causing all sorts of waves.

When EvE is doing well imo PLEX will always be on the rise. I wouldnt describe EvE at the minute as 'doing well,' - quite the opposite in fact.

From my observations, PLEX supply is relatively elastic and PLEX demand is relatively inelastic. Conclude from that what you will.

plex prices will remain the same if you think about it, margin trading + trading = a few people/alts controlling the plex market
Edit: the OP is just trying to push plex prices higher

Is that why plex are selling for 380m today? I mean, I threw you people a ******* bone, the least you could do is apply your brains to it.

See also: If I threw 60b at plex at 360, and I sell plex at 385 within a week I've just made 7%, less 1% fees. That's what, 6% on 60b? 3.6b over a week to a week and a half for reading a market well. Yeah, plex are surely going down from 360m per unit. ...

e: my posting needs a breathalyzer, I swear.

I seriously wonder how people come to these conclusions some times.

Every good on the eve market are traded by people with margin trading + trading, so clearly all prices will remain the same, as long as i think about it.

I gorged on PLEX last night, some fool listed their stock of 9 PLEX at 340m each when the next sell order was 390m, these were of course instantly bought and marked up for quick resale, made a 350m profit in just 4 hours.
