Mining probes and planet ring mining.

In my sig you can see two really nice suggestions how to make mining more interactive and interesting. I got one more idea.

Many planets has rings. Pieces of rocks and ice flying around, colliding, breaking each other etc... Can be really hard place to survive in mining ship if you do not pay attention.

Rings are so huge, that you have to use special new kind of scanning probe, to find useable pieces of ice or ore. Those pieces are moving, so once you warp to a place you have to turn your survey scanner quickly or rock will get so far away you will have to scan it again, with probes.

After some rock collisions, even null sec ore can appear in rings in high sec. Since CCP tryes to make null independant from high sec that would give high sec manufactors at least some access to high end minerals.

In some areas ice sources are so poor, that ice from rings can also solve some of those problems.

In some of the other space sim games (like Elite dangerous or Evochron mercenary), mining is done in rings around planets, and the need to scan them and then keep track of the place would make it a real mining activity in EVE online, so +1 for that.

But even if we have now small anomalies with sometimes hemorphite gneiss etc (which are low-sec I think but with little high-end minerals), the quantity of these should stay low if added, ABC ores are called nullsec ores for a reason. Totally agree with ice, maybe gas or moon goo floating around ? which could make the "deep core mining" useful and not just a placeholder for mercoxit.

Mining planet rings? I support this idea, +1. The element of risk versus reward should be balanced beyond ice, ore, and gas, because if moving asteroids can actually do damage and destroy your ship, it would need to be significantly more money to justify the risk. This would also justify the use of a microwarp drive on your barge, hilarious.

However, if you've ever been in the rings of a planet, you know that they move far too fast to harvest in anyway, so the graphic would need to be changed as well to accommodate the placement of these fields. If not, it would be essential to use a microwarp drive or a smaller ship like a venture to be able to keep up with the movement of the field.

Also, flying and harvesting at high speed would require focused attention and would prevent any type of afk mining, this is interesting, as it would make the mining of these belts sort of like PvP for industry, look or walk away from the key board and you may fly straight into a shattering asteroid and blow your ship up.

I like it.

Yes it's a good idea and at this point underrated.

Your thread needs more attention, work more on the mechanics of the idea and post them.

I was thinking a bit more about your idea, as it has a great deal of potential.

Perhaps a wide variety of trace elements from, ice, gas, moons, ore, and planets can be found in the ring sites?

Consider the following: The Accretion Disk.

Since EVE is based on a great deal of actual physics and scientific data, it would make sense for the ring sites to contain a multitude of resources from all over the solar system. Planets, especially enormous gas giants, have a gravitational pull that can capture every type of floating debris traveling through space but they are also formed from the meteor impacts that strike the planet and the moons in orbit.

The Accretion Disk can contain trace elements of non-organic planetary resources, small quantifies of moon goo, minerals blown from the atmosphere, ice which naturally forms, and gasses that are trapped in the gravitational pull of the planets atmosphere. Combined, they form a unique new eden harvesting site referred to as, An Accretion Disk., per your idea, found only around certain planets and can only be only scanned down by probes, they wont show up automatically on the Probe Scanner by themselves like ore and ice sites do.

With this is mind, you would either need a new type of specialized ORE harvesting ship or modules to collect the matter accumulated in the rings.

For this sort of idea to work, mining barges need at least true cruiser level fittings, depending on if they are cruiser or bc sized vessels, so they can actually fit real fits rather than the current laughable fits. For regular forum posters I've posted enough on this topic, for less regular posters
TLDR
Only one type of barge, 14 slots, hard cap on strip miners, some turret/launcher options, some drones, cruiser level PG/CPU. Other current barges get re-purposed to true ore combat cruiser and true ore hauler, but both get ability to fit unbonused strip miner or 2 so as to not be totally useless when nothing is happening while escorting mining fleets.

So it seems to me we have found the true reason for T3 mining vessel. Frigate or barge size - do not matter IMHO. It should be able to mine ore and ice (gas is a static cloud, no way to stay in ring), have bonus for probing and very high basic speed or bonus to prop module fitting. Ability to mine moon minerals would be interesting too, but is not that crucial in my opinion.

What can be realy hard to implement is the big amount of celestial objects, moving and colliding. Hello TiDi? On the other hand the view can be hillarios...

Primarily any actual suggestions made are to progress the idea, cherry picking ideas is part of the process to making head way in progressive the game.

With that being said, it doesent mean a barge cannot be oriented towards speed although this is unlikely as they are usually considered too bulky to be agile.

Thank you for reiterating the ideas already proposed, but we basically already have this.

We could use webifier to slow down the piece we want to mine too, instead of having to tweak existing ships, because they can already be put on any mining barges.
