Runner Up Duke Nukem Forever

I haven't been really blown away by anything. DEHR and Skyrim were nice distractions, but what I really want is a good MMO or shooter to play regularly online. Nothing fits that bill so I'm leaving my top spot open, and I'm opening a few more spots at the bottom for games that failed to deliver. EvE is great, but it's slow going for me and it's a slow game to begin with. I can't play it all the time.

Runner up: X3 Albion Prelude

Disappointment: EVE Online Incarna
Runner up: Skyrim

I'm not really into testing new games as EVE used to eat all of my videogame time. Anyway I was severely appalled by the Incarna fiasco, whereas Crucible has ben more of a indifferent thing, good to see CCP doing the right stuff right, bad as it has not done anything for my kind of gameplay. Also I followed the crowd (Roll) into Skyrim and crashed on the fugly avatars, the awful console controls and the feeling that, for one reason or another, AoC is more beautitful and Morrowind was more "awe" (anyway I never really liked Bloodmoon, whereas Tribunal rocked).

The only nice experience I've had it's been going back to the X3 series with Albion Prelude (bypassing Terran Conflict). It's sitll soon to judge but I've put about 25 hours into the game and I am getting good vibes.

Best of 2011

First place: Skyrim

Runner up: Deus EX: Human revolution

Both are excellent games, that offer multiple solution/sandboxy goodness with good gameplay. Not perferct games, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing both more than any other game this year.

Worst of 2011

First place: Dragon age 2

Runner up: EVE online Incarna

Worst expansion in EVE versus worst/half assed RPG I've played in many many years. At least EVE had a solid core that still offered enjoyment, while DA2 thoroughly raped what was good in the original DA and left a nasty STD after it was done. On the whole a horrible piece of **** game where the only shining grain of gold was some of the interaction between the main characters and the NPCs. It is something BW does well and it was still good even in this otherwise subpar game.

Best:

Skyrim
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Battlefield 3 (multiplayer)

Worst:

Battlefield 3 (singleplayer)

Leaving EVE out of the equation here.

I was one of those people who actually ISN'T a hypocrite so i didn't buy or even download DA2, hence i can't put it on my list.
Saint's Row 3 isn't on there because while good, it lacked the subtlety of SR2 (yes, you read that right), now it's just "too much".

Overall i think 2011 was a pretty good year for games though.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Best of 2011

First place: Battlefield 3 (2800 kills and counting). Back to Karkand maps are excellent.

Runner up: EVE online Crucible (I never stopped believing <3)

I have not bought Skyrim so no clue except that my co-worker logged 313 hours this month.
SWTOR neither, looked terrible, but I'm hearing mixed reviews.

Honourable mention : Bought UFO:Extraterrestrials (release 2007) and it is surpisingly good XCOM fun (GOLD edition with the mods and AI at highest level). Nearing the end game after 140 missions.
I'm holding out hope that xenonauts will be good too (makes mental note to pre-order).

Worst of 2011

First place: Dragon age 2 (WHY BIOWARE WHY ???)

Runner up: EVE online Incarna (not so much horrible as disappointing)

Agree. Whoever thought 'press a button as onscreen shows you' was a good game method needs to be stamped on by all the gamers.

I was disappointed with Skyrim for the simple fact that there are some NPCs you can't kill because their death would break the storyline...but they then proceed to follow you around attacking you forever, thus breaking the storyline. Clearly they need more creative playtesters who will think outside the box.

Minecraft is my drug of choice when Eve loses my interest.

Battlefield 3's beta turned me off. I'm told they fixed a lot of the stupidity, but when the game was that bad two weeks before release, I have zero confidence and refuse to touch it.

World of Tanks
Minecraft
Terraria
Binding of Issac
TES: Skyrim
SW: TOR

All decent games to pass the time, with Tanks being the best of the group for me.

Only dissapointment was no Diablo III in 2011. I don't tend to buy games I don't know I'll like, which saves me much dissapointment.

Shogun 2
Skyrim
BF3
The witcher 2 (How has this not made anyone's list yet? it's also like 20 bucks)
Portal 2
uncharted 3

Most frowny face ---> :(
Yeah I gues DA2... it's not bad it just wasn't the first, and the weird new world/character look. Things were improved, but at the cost of making the world a smaller place.
Rage... Don't own, but a roommate does. Once again not bad, but just not a whole lot there. No real MP, and 60 is a steep asking price for 10-12 hours of single player.
Runner up Crysis 2. Single player is good, but MP got hacked immediately, and due to client side file manipulation...literally could change it in notepad.

Which raises another issue and that is all the poor security put into place on games or done via game companies. You can't keep everyone out, but uh some of measures were hands down negligent to forget.

Fave: Eve Online: Crucible (so good to see the CCP ship making a hard turn to the right track)
Runner Up: Uncharted 3

Least fave: nothing, because I'm so very picky about what I spend even 10 minutes on when it comes to games

Most anticipated (haven't gotten to yet): To The Moon
Runner Up: LA Noire

Duke Nukem Forever gets no mention? That was bad to an almost indescribable level.

Favorite: Probably Skyrim, also. Was at least a nice, fun adventure for ~40 hours of gameplay, and exploring Skyrim was extremely rewarding, which wasn't always the case with Oblivion.

Most Disappointing: Dark Souls. ******* **** **** **** ****. Waited a LONG time for that game, was great for about the first month I had it, then a whole slew of problems emerged that just completely broke the game.

Weapons didn't scale like they should (fully upgraded regular weapon demolished weapons made from boss's souls), way OP miracles that assholes just spammed over and over again, making it impossible to get near them, that stupid ring that makes it so that you can't target people, the fact that something is just ****** up with the online mechanics, like when I walk up to someone to hit them, somehow they randomly get a backstab from lag and kill me in essentially one hit. They weren't even behind me when they get the backstab either. Demons souls was SO much better.

Based on the terrible reviews I never bought it, I imagine the same goes for some other people to.

Worst fail of all time goes to duke nukem forever.

Runner up so far is TOR. I basically these days only play for the daily space combat.
