Up close and personal? There are three ships that I use for this: vindicator, machariel and Astarte. All of them have more than 1100 DPS, and in the case of the Astarte, you have to get really close...

I am surprised that the Nightmare is not a prime contender for the "Brawler Approach". With its bonus to AB, its can reach over 700 m/s. In addition, his bonus to tracking speed could help even more when things are zooming around...

Why would the Mach be better? His speed bonus is only relevant to actually "get on site". So the Nightmare tracks well and hit like a truck. This leaves mid slots for better shiekd tank (instead of tracking) and low slots for heat sinks.

Machariel: Level 4 Blitzer - MWD - Web - EW Drones - Minmatar Space.

It's a tad on the pricey side; cheaper modules would work pretty well.

P.S. On a side note, battleclinic's interface has gotten ugly.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

The ab hurts its tracking but you can practice flying in a mach way to avoid that. Its not bad but a little flimsy in tank. Still needs tracking mods though a lot of the time.

the ab can hurt or help depending on how you use it.

I think the main reasons the nightmare isn't immediately mentioned is due to damage type, and that for the most part the paladin does a better job. The damage type isn't really even an issue for most missions, but many people seem obsessed with only having one mission ship. I haven't flown my nightmare since the marauder changes a while back. The nightmare can fit a beefy tank, shields are great for burst tanking. and it can fit for a lot of gank. With tachs it has very good projection. pulse is good for brawling and can get some projection with scorch.

mach has selectable damage, warp speed, agility, and with a 100mn mwd it goes ~1500. For many missions the hit and run style works very well. plus at close ranges it hits very hard. Arty fits take a bit of a dps hit, but I typically fly those when I only have to hit a few targets, and don't want to worry about range too much.

Hello all...

I currently run my L4 missions using a Rattlesnake with the missiles+MJD+Sentries strategy.

I must say that its pretty easy mode and my skills are on the low side for such a ship. However, it can be a little boring to always see the action from 100km away.

This said, i would like to find an alternative that could change the pace from time to time.

What would be a good "brawler" ships that could allow me to be up close and personal with the Rats of l4 missions?

Do you have a fit to propose?

Skill-wise, i have all fitting skills at 4 or 5. I am decent with drones and missiles but i would not mind to try another weapon system. I can do both Shield and Armor tanking, but my skills are better with Shield.

I exclusively do mission in Amarr space these days.

Thanks

Ps: i am jaleous of my mentor who flies a Golem...and stay right in the middle of the action. That is why i would like to try something more close ranged.

Chainsaw Plankton had a pretty decent fit for you. Although I'm not a fan of slow boating without a prop mod.

The Rattlesnake poses some problems. It's a dual weapon system, so that's mid slots thatl have to be sacrificed to help apply your drone's damage because your lows are already boosting your drone and missile damage. Sacrificing mids mean your tank is lighter, if you want to get down and dirty your going to have to pimp them which can easily send your fit north of a billion isk.

There's a reason for the popularity of MJD fits, they skimp on tank to have max gank.

A Caldari Navy Raven is a great missile boat that can field a hefty tank and still have decent DPS.

There are just way to many possibilities with what you can do. To get close and personal.

EVE is all about choices, you can shoe horn most ships into any role. Why don't you tell us the hull you want to fly and we can work from there.

Actually the rattle tank is perfectly fine with one navy xl booster, one heavy cap booster, and one hardener. Could be that hardener is an invuln if you wish. Invuln gets you 465 tank vs guristas which is fine and 330 vs sansha which have crap accuracy anyways. And you can overheat for much more tank. Switching to kinetic hardener brings you 700 guristas tank. Honestly the rattle does not need a pith booster nor two hardeners.

Are there any decent Vindi fits to brawl with that don't require me flying over a billion isks worth of gank bait? I had a crack at it with pyfa, but frankly the results I came up with either I would gank me or I might as well stick with my Rokh cos its not a good enough improvement.

?

At a glance with a T2 only fit I get a 30% increase in DPS compared to the Rokh with worse projection but better tracking, not to mention bonused webs for holding things down that are difficult to hit. The tank is definitely not as good but doing 30% more DPS should easily counter the need for the stronger tank. I guess that leaves me wondering how you fit your Rokh.
