Why is the price for PLEX rising ?

And I'm talking about the real-life price for two PLEX in the online shop I'm using.
No I'm not linking it, because it's not necessary.

Last year, two PLEX cost me 26 EUR.
Now, two PLEX cost me 30.16 EUR.

Except one time I didn't see it until it had 29 ...
... and then gradually went up to over 30.

The one time was shortly after GTCs got removed from the shop system ...
... and PLEX introduced instead. From then on the price went up.

Why is this happening ?
And if no answer is available ... what could be reasons why it's happening ?

Thanks !

Either they're paying in $$ and adjusting for currency, or they want better margins. vOv

Adjusting for currency ?

That last EUR increase I've observed took a month or something ......

That actually sounds bad.

Inflation + development budgets needing more income, thus raising the prices.

Or maybe CCP raised prices to pay off the 20 million they used to pay off their public bonds? Shocked

That's actually a fairly plausible explanation. That budget gap has to be filled somehow. Maybe SKINs are so hilariously expensive for the same reason.

Have you seen the cost for alcohol in Iceland recently?

To buck the popular trend, I began to Rage Start instead of Rage Quit.

...and every time I get another piece of Carbon, I know exactly what CCP is getting this Christmas.

It's also not necessary to continue using a reseller that jacks up the price. Find another online shop with a better price.

I can make enough isks to buy 2 plexes in game in 2-3 hours with 2 accounts.

Most people don't make 30 Euros in 2 hours in real life.

Why would CCP increase the price for their resellers gradually, instead of one time ?
Seems completely unnecessary, so I rather doubt that one.

And the reseller I am using, or not using, has nothing to do with my question. ^_^

Yeah, no, completely irrelevant.
Same as the reseller I am using.

And besides does it make most sense to assume the prices for everyone went up.

I don't know about most people. But if I had to work for less than 25 Euros an hour, I'd retire...

Pretty sure the EU added some new tariff or other to digital goods in the past year, if I recall my economic digest correctly.

Some new taxes don't explain the continuous increase, even though it's just a small one.
Things like this don't get increased gradually, there's no point to it.

Not saying it's not an idea, it just doesn't seem to fit.

The same with the margins. Upping the price every week on average,
even by just a few cents is just nonsense.

Considering that the values of currencies change daily ...
... it might actually be the case.

But wtf did it increase so much ... and keeps increasing ?

Yeah I'm probably missing something self evident here ...

Very funny, actually. :)

I wonder if the price has to rise even higher ...

Is that possible ?

AFAIK CCP has one price for plex in EUR. on that note some resellers are in the US, or accept USD, and the EUR has lost value vs the USD over the last year

1 year ago 1 EUR bought 1.37 USD, today 1 EUR buys 1.14 USD. so if you are paying in USD the EUR price will have gone up. If you buy from CCP there shouldn't have been a price change.

tl;dr see stoicfaux's post about Greece
