Launcher Keeps Asking for Character Name Although I Have a Static IP

Im using the same IP-Address for years now, i have hundreds or even thousands of logins with the same IP, but a few weeks ago the launcher started asking for character names on every login.

Screenshot: http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150505/7qmyench.jpg

Its not a big problem for me, but it looks like the system behind it is not working properly. I have checked the login IPs on my account management page and they are always the same, but the launcher keeps saying "Since you haven't logged in from this IP before ..."

I am also constantly being asked for character names on the account to Verify. Unfortunately, it seems that it isn't always matching up with the account I'm actually trying to log into *strange*.

For now I've resorted to using the client file in the Bin folder to be able to logon.

This is getting annoying ....
4 accounts, each character name has 10+ letters + passwords = ~70 chars to type and ~20 mouse clicks everytime when i start my EVE session.

What is also weird, is that after correctly entering your character name, the lauchner often selects another account (probably the default entry in the cached account list) and you have to pick the desired account again from the drop down list.

This is NOT good usability!

I had this happen. Put in my password, asked for character name. Put in my password a second time after confirming my character name then it asked for it a second time. I can understand the IP requests may have increased in frequency due to a new ISP on my end but twice in a row is definitely something fishy. My IP can't change that fast unless I happened to be loggin into Eve at the exact same time my ISP refreshed their network IP's. Not very plausible.

Was the problem fixed? I just logged in with all 4 accounts and the lauchner didnt ask a single time for character names.

Still not working correctly for me. Submitting a support ticket. Did you do anything to your PC that may have cleaned up the issue?

Nope. I changed nothing on my PC or in the client.

Keep in mind that i have a static IP, if you have a dynamic IP then the launcher probably keeps asking for character names because your IP changes.

This has been happening to me off and on since a faillauncher update a couple weeks ago. Usually when it asks, it'll go into an endless loop of asking for character name, then password, then char name again, etc. I usually have to close and reopen the launcher to get it to work.

I also have a static IP.

Nah, even with a dynamic it doesn't change every 5 minutes. It is also very easy to determine both your internal (private) and external (public) IP.

im having this problem too!

i cant log in at all on any of my accounts.

i have tried to put a ticket in but it refers me to the "help center" but then i cant look for my issue because it doesnt log me in or let me log in and when i go to click support a ticket *on the help center* it comes up with an error saying:

"Failed to create user: user cannot be created/updated; this Zendesk account has expired"

and boots me back to the "help center" home page!!!

this is annoying beyond belief

Same issue, website support ticket tried to be sent, it bugged out too.

edit nb. Definitely something very wrong, you can enter the WRONG password and it still gives the same not the same IP address loop.

I got a reply to my ticket with a fix that seems to work for me. After entering your associated character name, click "Continue" instead of hitting enter. So far, it is working. I had to do it once on my main and alt, then it didn't ask the next time.

This is probably intentional. This way you don't know if it's the character name / Authenticator code that's wrong or the password. I get the "Enter a character name" message only when I enter the wrong password.

Also, the launcher doesn't remember you because of your IP address, but based on the computer you use. My main PC gets a new IP adress every night and I use my notebook from many different networks and was only asked once to enter a character name per account on either device.

Worked for the first account I logged in, but when I go to run another one the play button is greyed out.

This is a stupid and annoying security feature. All it does it make people less likely to use the launcher except to download updates.

Removing the launcher and downloading the Beta one has finally fixed my launcher issues. \o/
