Cannot log into my two alt accounts

When trying to log into my two alt accounts it says type in name of one of the pilots, which i do paying attention to both caps and spacing then press the button and it basically tells me to go @#^@ myself.

No one here can teach you how to type your account name, password and character name without making a mistake. Try it again.

All my accounts are more than a year old but thanks for the heads up anyways.

Don't kid yourselves. Even the dirtiest pirates from the birth of EVE have been carebears. They use alts to bring them goods at cheap prices and safely, rather than live with consequences of their in game actions on their main, from concord to prices

Hey, General Discussion can be friendly as well, no matter that this is more of a Issues, Workarounds & Localization thread.

Here, let me try:


  1. Like any other software that uses some sort of caching mechanism, if something does not work, clear the cache. Eve's launcher cache is separate from the game cache and can be found from the settings menu (cog icon in the upper right corner of the launcher). Here's the screenshot of launcher's cache page: http://i.imgur.com/fm9YBAJ.jpg. Use "Clear all cached data" button ant try to log in again. This will restart your launcher (sometimes it doesn't start automatically after being closed this way, so you can start it manually again);

    2. Just a note: Clearing cache will remove account user names that you have previously entered. So if you have multiple accounts, make sure to remember or write down account names before clearing launcher cache;

  2. Don't know if it's still the case, but I think I remember that launcher had a weird bug where it would ask you for your character name when you type your password wrong and then reject your login even when you have entered correct character name. I think they've fixed it now and that you can't pass the username / password page if your password is not correct, but make sure to double check the password.

  3. Check your e-mails or log in to the account management page to see if, maybe, your accounts were temporarily banned. I'm not suggesting anything, but merely pointing out an option that could prevent you from logging in. Smile

  4. Are you using two active launchers for main and alt accounts? I don't know whether it is possible (maybe through shortcuts), but as a programmer who does a lot of debugging and have experience in unusual ways of using software by my clients, this comes up as a potential option. If two launchers are used at the same time, it might get a bit buggy, so try using only one launcher and "Switch accounts" option to log into multiple accounts from the same launcher;

  5. While we're at multiple launchers, use Windows Task Manager and check out Processes. Maybe a bugged instance of a Launcher.exe is still running somewhere in the background and is preventing the displayed launcher to function properly. If it is, kill it with "End Process" and try again.

  6. Log in to the account management page and check if your characters are still there. If your account that you can not log into was hacked Ugh, it could be possible that the characters are not there any more.

  7. As others suggested, try clicking the "Enter" or "Log in" button (can't remember the exact text now), instead of pressing Enter on the keyboard. There are reports of launcher not accepting keyboard's "Enter" command properly.

  8. If nothing from the above works and everything seems normal but you still can not log in to the game, submit a support ticket in "Stuck" category, since your alts are basically stuck and can not play the game. Stuck tickets are resolved the fastest, but don't abuse it for other purposes, since it makes GM's angry and can have consequences Smile

this is a recent thing.

pushing enter defaults to cancel and not enter on the client

enter in the pilot name and manually click enter and it works

if that is to fail for some reason log into that account on the forum and it works and wont prompt you on the client.

annoyed me for a while on the same thing till i found the cause.

it ask me for my char name only when i type my password wrong.

Slow down and try again. otherwise file a petition cause we can not help you past that

Check you're using the right username and password combo, I sometimes forget to change the username and this comes up.

My ISP changes my address every 24 hours so it keeps telling me i have never logged in from this address and need to enter a pilot name to log in, but thx for the help.

requesting topic closure, i appreciate the help offered but i think i'll probably just start getting idiots posting junk at this point. Will file petition if things cannot be worked out.

The default for ENTER already got changed to what it should.

Tbh without the actual error msg or explanation what happens,
this whole thread perfectly fits into GD! ^_^

Confirming I get this every time I asks me. Only once since CCP ever introduced the character name check has it ever accept a character name properly.

However upon a second attempt of logging in it lets me in anyway without asking.
