So what did you get with the steam xmas sales this year....

I wait until the xmas sales every year to get the games I don't want to pay full price for, and usually get some great deals. What did all of you end up getting this xmas season on sale and how were they?

For between $4 and 7$ each I got:
1. Bulletstorm - haven't played it yet, will later, was on sale today

2. E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy - horrible, horrible Japanese port, overly complicated, no discernible story line from the start, really just cobbled together cyber samurai, very weird and not very engaging.

3. Prototype - sorta meh, they hide the lack of graphic quality with lots of fast movement, not terribly bad though, introduction into the story could have been slightly better.

4. Operation Flashpoint: Red River - will play it later, didn't like Dragon Rising, but figured I'd give this one a shot, was cheap, looks better than DR.

5. Duke Nukem Forever - kinda meh, but wasn't really expecting much, had some laughs, will finish it for lulz eventually.

6. Portal 2 - awesome, couldn't stop playing until I finished.

7. Nuclear Dawn - decent for $5, still play a few matches here and there, worth $5.

8. Limbo - haven't played it yet, was like $2 or some crap, figured I'd get it for ***** and giggles, doesn't look bad.

9. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - kinda meh, decent enough for the price though, not disappointed in comparison to what I paid.

10. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II - kinda ok, key mapping is kind of borked when trying to map the keys for left handed use, same as above, not disappointed for what I paid.

11. Oblivion - ok for the price, character models leave something to be desired, sort of got bored quick though, kept thinking to myself "I could just be playing an MMO instead with actual people." Seems a little overly complex for when you're just starting out and getting presented with vast amounts of choices with no real feel for what is going to suck or work for how you like to play these types of games. Once you get rolling though it's not bad.

12. Brink - awful, horrible graphics, horrible mechanics, very little in the way of engaging the player in any sort of cohesive storyline, stability sux, not worth the money.

Nothing. I have too many games as it is and the only deal that I thought had anything worthwhile having was the THQ package, and I already own a majority of the games in it like Company of Heroes, Dawn of War, Metro 2033, Stalker and Supreme Commander.

edit: As For E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy, it is actually a french indie developer behind it.

Nothing here, either, but that's because I've learned that steam tends to crash my computer for some reason...

Didn't get anything, since I already owned or had played all the games I was interested this year and I already don't have much free time to play the games I actually want to play.

Got the original (and best) KOTOR for $2.50!

Been years since I played it, figure I'd give it another go and see what I missed.

Normally I don't buy things off steam. They're usually overpriced compared to ordering a hard copy off a reputable online retailer also, the steam client has given me nothing but problems in the past.

S.P.A.Z. space pirates and zombies is a good game, really solid and good for the OCD kid in all of us.

Racettear an Item shop tale. Yes I bought a shonen(or is it a shojo) game. Hate the weeboo in me but its actually a good heart warming tale.

Chanetelese the sequal to Racettear

Fable 1

Star Wars Jedi Knight bundle

Star Wars Republic Commando which is one of the best games ever made.

Yeah I bought civ 5 over the summer when it was on sale, was pretty good. I got stuck playing it for hours upon hours which turned into days like I used to in civ 3 lol.

I went for Braid and LIMBO as gifts for my wife, and honestly, I played LIMBO with her for quite a while together using her laptop. Totally loved the game, it's a bit short, with some breaks, took her about 8 hours to finish it, but really loved the concept and was well worth the cup of coffee I paid for it Big smile

Was tempted to buy certain games, but as a rule of thumb I never pay more than 15$ for a single game in steam.

Gave away to friends WARBAND and directed them to download Prophesy of Pendor mod for WB, and both my friends totally enraptured with it so far, best damn mod ever for Warband, highly difficult too, something I enjoy severely, WB is the only game in steam that has more than 400+ hours of logged of play. Just love it! If you have warband, install this standalone mod and enjoy!

PROPHESY OF PENDOR

Also, right now I'm tempted to buy TERRARIA but don't know anyone that has played it, seems interesting. Nothing else from their catalogue piques my fancy ( I just have too many damn games , over 200+ to actually see something worth on it these days)

Right now I'm just waiting the 1 and a half year it will take me to see skyrim with all official xpacs for 14.99$ :P

As a sidenote, yes, BRINK is the most awful piece of crap software FPS ever released to the public. I played it severely for the weekend it was free to all steam users, and my last words were "OMG HOW YOU PEOPLE CAN STAND PLAYING THIS PIECE OF *****". No wonder it was on offer for 5$ and then , they better pay me 5$ to even consider downloading it again.

Portal II, who dosent love it

Terraria, LOVE it, played it for like 6 hours straight just after I bought it. Its 2D minecraft with an actual GAME attached. Not sure how long it'll hold my interest but a few days of some cool gameplay is worth a measly 5yoyo

AI War, massive scale space RTS. Its pretty cool but mannn games can drag outttt. Havnt finished one yet, but the AI is dam impressive, game can go on for days but make a mistake and AI can destroy you in minutes

New Alien V Predator game, knew single player was a mess but heard MP was worth a few euro....think I was wrong =/

E. Y. E Divine Cybermancy, OP its actually French, nuthin to do with Japanese devs. I like it, story is a bit of a mess but its.....different, very open ended in how you can play, plus blockin bullets with my sword = win

Total War Shogun 2, got it for 20euro few days after it was on sale for 10 =( but alas it was still worth it, hated last few Total Wars but this seems like a return to what made original ones so great. Also Co-Op Campaign, **** yea!

X3 is ok if a game like EVE with all the PvP and player shenanigans taken away appeals to you. Thats just an opinion of course, lots of people love the series but I just don't enjoy it, its either running lots of factory's and trade ships remotely via a text based interface or bugged capitol ship combat. Running a massive trade empire and watching numbers count up isn't my kind of game.

The graphics where good back when it was released and still look nice technically and aesthetically, the game does have a great deal of depth to it which is always nice to see. The X series is pretty much a Marmite game, people either love it or hate it, some cannot get past the UI either. The UI can make EVEs UI seem great at times, once you figure it out though its not to bad.

Picked up:

- Fallout 3: Game of The Year Edition. Been playing this for the last few days and quite enjoy it. While I feel that Bethesda did a great job in bringing us this game, it seems to be missing a little something that would make it a true Fallout game. I haven't installed any of the five DLC's yet, so maybe my opinion of the game may change once I do.

- Skyrim. Haven't really gotten into this game as of yet, due to the fact that I just had to get my Fallout fix. But from what I've seen of the game so far, I'm going to really enjoy it.

Was going to get LIMBO as I really enjoyed playing the demo, but alas, I ran out of moneys on my gift card after buying Skyrim and Fallout 3.

Surrender is still your slightly less painful option.

I got myself a couple of games "gifted" from a guy from the US. THATS RIGHT SCREW YOU GERMAN CENSORING.
Namely,

Fallout NV (Yup, thats more like Fallout. Not this "lol i shoot green big orks" crap.)

Left 4 Dead 1+2 (Get atleast 1 friend to play this in coop. Unending fun. Versus too, but public versus = ear AIDS. Better mute all.)

Aliens vs Predators (Still dont understand HOW this game flopped so bad. I think its great.)

Borderlands (120+ hrs. Best Diablo clone since Diablo 2)

Payday (Left 4 Dead coop without zombies but with MONIEZ and POLICE? YES PLEASE.)

W40K Space Marine (Badass game. Someone who talks crap like: "OMG WHY NO COVER SYSTEM UNACCEPTABLE" should be declared heretic and be blammed by a kommissar. YOU. ARE. A. SPEEEEHHHHSSSS MUHRREEEEENN. No cower, just pure ubermensch power and a bolter. Or a melta. Oh, and orks. and CHAOOOSSSSSS MUHREEEEENNSS)

Overlord 1 + 2 (GREAT GAMES, how in the world did i manage to miss them O_o. Which another game makes you play an evil overlord with a small army of TOTALLY evil, chaotic but impossible cute minions? Seriously, try the demo. I was bought at the first time one of my minions grabbed a soul and then ran toward me and presented this soul to me, HIS OVERLORD with a smoke-flavoured voice: "For youuuuu!" Just moments later, three of my minions run in a pumpkin field and just smash dem pumpkins (for lulz and chaos, i suppose). And somehow, these little buggers put themselves little pumpkins on their heads. And everytime they find something they like, you hear thing like: "FOR MEEEE!" or, "NAAAAAIIIS!". Why the hell am i writing this, no sane person reads this anyway, if you do - buy the game, drop me an evemail, ill give you 10m just because)

and stuff like:

Uplink (Awwww yeaaah. Finally realised WHY the first jump MUST be "Internic". Fk me.)
DEFCON (3 friends, 1 planet, everybody nukes everybody, all die. FUN.)
Recettear: An item Shop's Tale (WTF game, but in a good sense. Couldnt stop snickering the first 8 hrs)
Oh and Dungeon Defenders. GG free time :( 130hrs and counting....
