I had 3 alts for general gubbins then went crazzy and got rid of two and my main. I kept Chrome because hes the better looking and i helped killed a super with him. i just like the simplicity of only having to worry about the one

edit: yes that means this isnt an alt... anymore

No Worries

I have RL friends I play eve with but they are often busy (we're all at uni) and for moving capitals you really need an alt. That said they don't have alts and rely on me a bit more than I rely on them.

I use my alt for many reasons.

Having a second char to fly my ships when I'm on JC timer and in the wrong clone.
Having more Jump clones, between my chars I have 9 clones gives me lots of options.
Having a scout / prober
Gang boosts

I don't disagree with people who chose not to use an alt, but I do find for me it makes the game a lot more reasonable

For those of us who live in the uberdark of wormhole space or nullsec or wherever, having to actually fly all the way to amarr just to check prices would be really boring. Alts are a great way to save time doing the logistics stuff, which means you've got more time to do the fun stuff on your main.
It even makes sense on an immersion level if you decide that your alts are employees of the main.

...plus without alts the forums would be empty!

To a point I agree.

I had a Trader Hauler Industry alt but Currently this is the only character I have active. While it is more challenging and FUn to be one character player there are times like waiting for the cyno guy that really drive me mad. Some of teh mechanics are really annoying and could be made less of problem with the use of dedicated alts.

My alt is currently only used for checking prices in Jita, eventually i may be forced to use him for cyno generation as well. But i must admit to having always felt just a little dirty for bringing him into existance in the first place. I'd like it if it were somehow impossible to have alts or second accounts since having to worry constantly about the reputation of your good name adds an imense amount of depth to the game. But if everyone who flys jump ships flys them with an alt for cyno i may be forced to do the same in order to remain competative.

Does anyone still fly jump ships using the proper methods, with a real human team mate?

I get by just fine in a WH with no alts. Market stuff is done by using 3rd party sites...

For fleets you use a team, and for long trips you set up a cyno chain. But are you gonna ask a corpmate to drop what hes doing every time you want to use your carrier?

if i was your ally and found you ninja ratting in my system without paying rent or express permission to rat there...i'd reset your corp and pop that pos.

Everytime you buy something that says "made in china" you are helping the rising unemployment in your own country unless you are from china, Buy locally produced goods and help create more jobs.

Did you even read my post? You completely missed my point Big smile

A few comments:

- as mentioned in my OP: we're not part of an ally
- which POS? I'm talking about a carrier.
- it's called ninja ratting for a reason. But let me rephrase it "non-consensual ratting" ^^

@ All the others: many thanks for your responses. Pro and con. A lot of insight for me. Some wrote about the hassle moving capitals without an own cyno alt. As for my part, I see every capital ship just as huge force multiplier for a small fleet. Which means I'd need some kind of "force" to multiply...so in our case there will be someone with a cyno always.

Maybe I miss something but I cannot find a reason (for me) to fly a capital solo. And since my alt would be a pure cyno alt only (no dual boxing in PvP) I would be solo in my capital.
